Another Day Another Catch and Release Felon Goes On A Crime Spree

From WBTV:

A man was arrested Wednesday night after Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say he was armed with a stolen gun, fled in a stolen car and barricaded himself in a shed.

An off-duty officer was at a Shell gas station off the 5600 block of Brookshire Boulevard around 9:40 p.m. Nov. 10 when he saw a man wearing a bulletproof vest. The man, Jaquavian Byrd Caldwell, 19, had a gun and while CMPD didn’t specify what he was doing with it, said in a press release his actions with the gun “troubled onlookers and raised a concern for public safety.”

Jaquavian Caldwell has been arrested a dozen times in the last two years.

Caldwell left in a car and the off-duty officer notified on-duty police in the area.

Police tried to stop the car, but the driver fled and crashed near Glenwood Drive and South Hoskins Road. All four people inside the car fled after the crash, and three of them were quickly arrested

Officers say Caldwell fled the car with a rifle and pointed it at someone nearby before running into a shed off the 4300 block of Tillman Road.

SWAT officers, CMPD’s Canine and Aviation units joined CMPD worked to de-escalate the situation. Caldwell surrendered peacefully.

Officers determined the gun and car involved were both stolen. Caldwell was arrested and charged with going armed to the terror of the public, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a stolen vehicle and assault by pointing a gun.

Cedar's Take:

Caldwell was on probation for crimes committed in early 2019 at the time of his arrest on Wednesday.

He was sentenced to 24 months probation in June of 2020, despite being arrested several times while awaiting trial. Since his probation sentence, Caldwell has been arrested 7 times, clearly violating the terms of his probation with absolutely zero intervention by probation officers or the courts.

What the truck Charlotte?

For the definition and example of broken system please read the above. Let's CLT Gov Co. FVL ..FBW ..Fuck the rest of them that led us to where we are now. Stick that in your chicken fucking sandwhich.

Where was the extra curricular intervention for this man? For him to break this cycle, he has to have guidance, counseling, and some life skills taught to him. Shame on Charlotte for not offering that to its most vulnerable citizens.

Back about 50 years ago he'd end up taking a swim off the Cowen's Ford Dam. Duke Power would always look the other way. They understood that decorating trees had gone out of favor and was bad optics for the city. 30 Years ago he'd be cuffed and stuffed in the back seat of a Crown Vic and unfortunately no one would bother to seat belt the poor boy in for the ride. Can you say Brake Check? Seriously these thugs used to fear the cops now they just say FUCK CMPD! Time to take back our streets!

Dream on. The days of Armor Alling the plastic benches in the back of the cruisers and taking the scenic route to the tunnel are looooong gone. Those were the days though. A lot of respect was taught during that period. Plus those long marble steps in the old LEC were very "slippery".....

I remember just rolling into a parking would scatter the entire complex. Man those were good times.

Anyone catch the crazy woman at last night's homicide? I've seen a lot of crazy LE hate but that was a whole new level.

Reparations in kind. In another 10 years blacks will be able to commit low-level felonies without consequences.

11:29, Shame on Charlotte and all of the liberals for constantly telling these people they are victims and cant do any better. That's the problem. Liberals convince them they have no opportunities. This is the result of constantly beating it into someone's head that they are and have less than because of their skin color. People rise or fall to the level of others expectations. That's human nature. Liberals use this race baiting crap for votes. They could not care less about anyone. I also just heard that BLM is collecting tons of money but putting almost nothing back into their communities. If that's true, it is the 2nd worst, saddest example of the black community exploiting their own for personal gain. Actually I hate saying black community. We are all people with different sizes, hair, eye and skin colors. I am so sick of the focus on race separation by these liberal elites. They love to keep blacks down so they can pretend to be their saviors, but they just backstab with terrible policies.

A concerned citizen who believes in the 2nd Amendment should intervene and forget about the court system.

1109: Your lack of concern for the systematic inequities that thrive in Charlotte are exactly why this type of continued cycle goes on. If you would encourage your leaders to enact some sort of extra taxation to pay for the kinds of help the community needs, then you could look at yourself knowing that we as a community made an effort. Back home, we had township taxes. I see no reason, with the booming property values, and massive increase in wealth this county has, that an extra 1-2% of your property value to pay for mental health resources, and a trained community de-escalation force, and extracurricular programs for at risk youth. The list is endless. instead of CMS losing teachers by the bounty, pay them and give them the resources to make every high school as good as MP.

Nobody is telling the Black community anything they already don not live every single day. just in this thread, we have the police talking about how to violently handle a problem citizen. Look no further to see the systematic abuse right in front of your eyes. Look no further than the beaten down thoroughfares in town, where prosperity has skipped right over them. How about some fairness in zoning approvals. Publix wants to build a new grocery store? Fine, put one on Beatties Ford. Someone wants to build apartments in SouthPark? Fine, have a 25% set-aside for single mothers, the underemployed, and those with records who get shunned by the corporate rental managers.

We have such a great track record in many of our states of success through enacting common sense regulations. Charlotte has changed, and that evidence is from companies like Honeywell seeing that this is not the South any longer. Either embrace the new tomorrow, or just move out to the country somewhere. It is coming whether you like it or not.

0800 is right, Charlotte is changing because people like him are brining failed liberal ideas from “back home” to here. How about you just go “back home” or to one of those states that you hail success from your “regulations?” This is just like cultural appropriation that no one ask for and no one wants. If everything is so great in these liberal utopias then why are people fleeing in droves?

You can compare "back home" to a more civilized pace like Cary. Property taxes are much more in line with what the market value is, and they fund their community services. I don't think they toss apprehended suspects off the Jordan Lake dam there. And I also haven't read about innocent police shootings there like down here, so I am going to suspect that they do a better job of managing their peace officers. Their schools are better, and I know they respect Black culture's influence on the greater community.

Don't like Cary? Well sub in Asheville, which is paying reparations and tearing down monuments, not just renaming streets. Chapel Hill, Raleigh: they all are leading the progressive march in this state.

It's coming, it should have been here. You can move out to Anson County and hide, or you can be a part of the solution.

I moved... And life is so much better. And safer! Bus lines don't run into southern Union County.

So CFD has 100 openings and only 200 applications. CMPD has 300 openings and only 60 applications.

You should never dive head first into a shallow talent pool.

Is CMPD hiring for that airport crew? That's the job I want. Back-up guy for the TSA. Climate controlled, lots of good people to talk to, not a lot of calls to respond to.

If everyone in Jersey thinks its so great, why did they just elect a republican truck driver to replace their well known senate president? They did this because liberal policies are designed to help no one but those in power. Medicare will pay for mental health for anyone that qualifies. Stop pretending that all of those programs are not already available. Its disingenuous.

You can’t recruit when your message is mandatory overtime, mandatory recalls, work more hours than those did 10 years ago, oh don’t take any sick time without a note, you got sick at home but you work more hours than you spend at home and instead of a real pay plan we buy expensive trucks that can’t make it in half the neighborhoods oh we got a lot of chiefs but competence has nothing to do with promotional processes. This doesn’t go well on a recruitment poster.

re 2:14 ... oops correction...Medicaid, not Medicare.

1755, It also doesn’t help that you require them to get the COVID shot now when over half of young and healthy adults have no interest in being a human guinea pig and risk myocarditis or any of the other wonderful side effects.

Jersey, along with many other states, like Va and Pennsylvania, to name a few, are vibrant democracies where both parties have a real shot at any election. It is the beauty of the American system. One party does not dominate the system, but the ebbs and flows of the electorate chose different parties depending on how they perceive the elected officials at doing best by the state. What they do agree on, however, is paying a fair share of the wealth that has been created by the state's generous spirit, encompassing safety net, and wonderful infrastructure. NJ may have gotten tired of a state senate president, but the ports, parkways, airports, and schools that keep NJ homes values so highly are not going to be deprived. The mental health and hospital networks and the third best state school system in the nation are not going to be sacrificed.

This comes from taxes. We need township taxes, fair valuations of homes so homeowners (and landlords, especially the corporate ones) pay up to 2% of real value each year. Local income taxes, an extra 1/2% sales tax. These things help give the community nice things.

Wouldn't you like the transit to come to your neighborhood? A light rail line all the way down Hwy 16 in this county is needed! From Mount Island Lake to Waxhaw.

Wouldn't you like it if the underserved schools were world class? How many future doctors are sitting at Olympic now, and cannot succeed because of decrepit facilities and unsupported teachers. Pay them $80k minimum if they have a masters, and you will see miracles come alive before your eyes.

So you are telling me that all those people who are on the street corners begging in our town have free access to mental health resources? I don't think so. Drug counselling and in patient facilities are needed to help them. Helping them makes our communities safer. But in the meantime, rolling down your window and being generous is a start. Buy the bottle of water from the guy. Give him a $20 and don't take the change back. Grant him the dignity of earning a living. Give the father trying to support a family who is out of work this Thanksgiving. Feel the generosity in your heart. Until then, lobby your elected officials that justice cannot come without a price, and we need a more fair tax system locally to fund that justice.

And pay the police and fire. If we pay our property taxes to the correct rate, you all wouldn't need this Pledge Fund stuff. A 70% pension at 55 years old and 25 years. It gives you time to have another career, and the forever income for serving the state. Who of you wouldn't want that?

Can't tell if the NJ guys is jist a troll or for real.

NJ is a corrupt shithole with hight taxes due to massive corruption. Services aren't any better there than here and they are anti freedom anti 2nd amendment. Jist read a book or two ie The Soprano State and the corruption is obvious.

Why I fled decades ago. Nobody needs to bring their failed ideas here. Was a nice place until uber liberals showed up.

No need to drop bad guys off bridges or beat them to a pulp. We just need prosecutors who actually prosecute them. Gasp. A prosecutor who does theor job. Who would think

I have been to NJ a few times and just like every other state in this country there are a few nice areas. Primarily in the rural towns. Otherwise NJ is just another giant turd on the map. Just as NC has nice areas within the state. Just not Charlotte, which is also another turd which is quickly developing into a larger turd with its eyes on becoming Detroit sized. Throw a dart at a map and you will find the same everywhere it sticks. Some folks moving from up north to NC think that it's great because they have essentially moved from a larger sewer to a smaller sewer. It's all optics.... I just don't understand why they always brag about how great it was there but they freely choose to move here.
