The Chief's New Clothes

Without a lot of fan fair or forethought the Chief of Charlotte's Police Department decided to give the command staff and himself a new uniform. I'm sorry but Cedar Posts at this point feels pretty bad for Chief Monroe, as his uniform is the newest joke around Charlotte-Mecklenburg City County Government water coolers.

Today during a press conference Tuesday, Monroe stood in front of several uniformed officers, while he self-congratulated himself in reducing crime. There he was in all his gold and glitter, contrasted by the plain blue uniforms "everyone else" was wearing.

With his gold filigree embellished CMPD patch, his two gold stars, his white shirt and his long jacket with five gold rings on each sleeve, he looked like someone's oddball uncle who decided to wear his ill fitting World War II dress uniform to his 20 year old niece's wedding.

Rodney Monroe is the Emperor and His New Clothes come to life, and no one has apparently dared to tell him the truth.

So I will.....

Chief you look like a cross between Napoleon and a Star Fleet Commander,

or an Admiral and a New York City Bus Driver,

or a Horse and a Donkey.

But mainly the latter.

I know, it's really strange.

Strange that there are no uniform
"standards" for the chief to abide by. I mean, could he just wear a caftan with braid all over it if he wanted to? Is there no limit to what he can attach to or hang off of his
"uniform"?

And exactly WHAT do the gold rings around his sleeves MEAN?

But I would like to know exactly how much CMPD money was spent on the new shirts and accessories for command staff? It's got to be quite a bit more than the christmas "party", so why haven't the news outlets asked for this information?

Honestly, the uniform looks like it belongs on a Doorman at the Dorchester.....
"Taxi?"

You should feel sorry for him. He's a joke. CMPD is a joke. What a mess.

I could tell you what the stripes mean and what various other items adorning his new rags mean, but it wouldn't matter. That uniform is not approved. It's not a part of the uniform directive. It didn't go through the uniform committe. And as far as I know, he's the only one that wears it. So, it doesn't matter. I'm most put off by his patches. Everyone on CMPD wears the same patch. Some are different colors for tactical uniforms, but what gives him the right to adorn his with gold trim just to make him look more like royalty? He makes me sick.

Do tell, why five stripes? Why only 2 stars. Does he have blood stripes on the pants?

Oaks leaves on his hat?

If it is not an approved uniform, then how does he get away with wearing it? If it isn't approved by the committee, how does he have the right to wear it?
And why has he changed the one hashmark on the sleeve for every five years rule? Is nothing freaking beyond this guy, does he just change directives and rules in his own mind without ever CHANGING them?
So, he has taken the uniform of CMPD and now made that a joke that means nothing now.
Now he is announcing that he has created a "new" unit to investigate property crimes? WTF?
How many officers is that going to take "off the streets"?
He has woven such a web of untruths it is hard to keep up.
He throws numbers around and doesn't have a clue as to what he is talking about.
If you really analyze his "speeches", you can easily find the holes in them.
Can't City Council, SBI, the FBI, stop this madness?
He is so out of his depth and out of his league.

Hey a new pic of RoMo... LOL... kinda fitting huh? I bet RoMo uses as much "brain" power as the A$$ in the pic....

I did see the story:
Officer investigation affects entire department

Note to all you can use HTML to put links in your comment here and at the Charlotte Observer.

It is a fact that RoMo had both the podium and the flags shortened to match his small stature.

You are so right. Why in the world is he wearing that clown outfit?

Are they so afraid of him that no one will tell him?

He has such a huge ego, he actually believes he looks gooood, and wouldn't believe anyone who said otherwise, but dismiss them as "jealous" or some other crap.

In truth, he looks like the pompous, arrogant little bully that he is!

This has to be the best Cedar Post ever!

I'm working out at Eastway and we've all had a good laugh about this!

A great boost for an otherwise pretty down group out here.

Thanks!

His new 'uniforms' are anything BUT uniform. I had the opportunity to see much of the command staff today in their VARIOUS uniforms. Some captains still had the correct blue uniforms, some wore just white shirts and blue pants, and some wore the dress coat, white shirt, and blue pants. All of the command staff was different. Doesn't uniformity come with us all wearing the same uniform to make us alike???

Until today, I was under the impression that Romo's five gold stripes on his sleeves were for rank. I figured it to be similar to the fire department, or even the Navy. I thought five stripes would indicate a chief, just as it does for the fire department. But after examining all of the command staff, I found myself to be mistaken. I saw captians with three stripes, when I assumed they'd have two, and I saw a deputy chief with three. Everyone was all mismatched. I figured they'd all confused their coats until I drew the conclusion that they must be years of service stripes. One stripe for every five. However, that is not what those are meant to signify and that is how you can make your uniform look like an absolute joke when you put together a bunch of pretty gold trim just to look royal without researching everything's tradition and meaning.

Officers shouldn't have service hash marks.

By the way Napoleon started the service device tradition.

Too F-ing funny!

Well, I have heard that romo is in a bit of a pickle about upcoming promotions.

Since the SURVEYS became public knowledge and he his reverse discrimination policy is out there, he is having a difficult time promoting who HE REALLY WANTED TO PROMOTE, so he has had to consider the second team.

Now, the second team is not as diverse as the first team, but it is FULL of BUTTSMOOCHERS. Not all, of course, he has to have a few in there that really deserve to be promoted, that have done a great job, that have been in their present rank for a good while, that are fair minded, ethical people of integrity.

Let's see who shakes out, it should be interesting!

Or maybe he will do as he as done with so much else....forget conventional wisdom and doing the RIGHT thing, he will just do exactly as he pleases and promote his personal agenda and to hell with it.

The Captains standing behind him look so happy and motivated.

The latest rumor is that Romo wants the entire department to get a "dress" coat. I suppose he thinks if everyone has a coat then people will lay off him. The transformation of CMPD into DC Police continues.

Anonymous said...

Folks - he's turning CMPD into the Metropolitan Police for the District of Columbia (MPD). I've watched from DC as he's inserted various MPD customs into CMPD. I feel really sorry for y'all. 4,000 MPD officers for 66sq mi (actually less since so much land up here belongs to the Feds and their individual police forces) and crime is still sky high.

Wait until you see the new "BDU" (battle dress uniform")he is putting all officers in. How's that going to affect the public's opinion of the entire department looking like SWAT guys?? He needs to do something positive for the department's image. And BDU's "ain't" it!!!!!

OMG the chief has gold rings on his sleeves. lets make a whole website about the deep deep corruption. I heard they were made out of 24k gold and he billed the taxpayer. the crime rate is down but but hey were focusing on improtant issues like the emporers new clothes...

So the chief wants to look flashy! You'll see most chiefs of "large" departments wearing the same blue uniform that the officers wear. It was that way after Chicago outcast Dennis Nowicki left headed back to the North. Command staff wore the blue uniform with pride along with the rookie on his/her first day in a patrol car. The white shirts of the command staff tell their subordinates that this is not a team but you must follow. And will someone, anyone, please show RoMo how to properly place his 2 gold stars on his collar!!!!! PLEASE!

This man is a true clown and as such he should be able to wear a clown outfit. Kinda makes you proud don't it..... I mean he has a clown suit and a funny college degree!

He has turned the department into a circus so he might as well wear a clown outfit
