Duke Energy's Voltron Goes Rainbow

If word on the web is true, Duke Energy's Tower nick named by the masses as "Voltron" came out last night in a rainbow display supporting gay pride and "National Coming Out Day". More about the special lighting from QNotes the LGBT blog here.

All I can say is it doesn't shock me, as I've always thought Reddy Kilowatt was pretty gay.

What does "shock" me is that Duke Energy via the building's big brother Wells Fargo would step into the quagmire of politics, just weeks after saying they would not use the lights of Voltron to endorse or support any political agenda.

Personally I could do without a "National Coming Out Day" and the hijacked rainbow symbolism.

The SFO of the East oh God! What next?

So that's what that stupid looking shit was all about? I'll be damned.

I am a gay man and I am proud that I have been out since high school. I am sooooo excited that Duke Engery is a proud supporter of gay is good and gay pride.

I will never buy electric service from any one else in Charlotte!

Yippie I am so excited! I think I just peed!

I am just so confused I think I going to cry!

Faggots and Democrats are taking over Charlotte.

Anonymous said...

So what is wrong with that?

OMG, sometimes the absolute ignorance on this site is what is shocking.

The sensitivity and sophistication, wow, it's heart warming.

I am really glad any of you don't have gay children, because they would be screwed up beyond belief.

Anonymous said...

Is that what was going on?

Pretty dumb if you ask me. But as all as they are OK Gold and White light when Playboy announces the Playmate of the year, I guess I can't complain.

Anonymous 7:37 summed it up nicely:

"I think I just Peed"

ROFLMAO

Honestly, the close minded ignorance and intolerance is amazing.

One of you knuckledraggers needs to start a Blog entitled:

All Intolerant, Bigoted, Racist and Sexist Welcome Here....

Oh wait, Glenn Beck already did that!

It's a private building right? So they can do whatever they want.

However I think lighting the building up in a rainbow to support national coming out day, if that is what they did (Either Duke Energy or Wells Fargo) is being a pretty poor corporate citizen of Charlotte.

If it shows support to one person, young or old, and prevents another teenage suicide by showing that support, then it is well worth it.

Bullies, like the ones on here that have no education or tolerance on the subject, are the real villans.

I think they are a pretty brave and tolerant and supportive "corporate citizen".

Here's the important question: Reddy Kilowatt, top or bottom?

I thinking bottom, what with his sockets and all.

Anonymous said...

And what would you be, Jat?

I mean besides a Jackass.....

JAT Thanks for the laugh!

I don't have any reason to hate gays I just can see myself looking at some dudes hairy ass and think Yum Yum!

If I did I'd want to kill myself too!

OK, enough.
I am not happy about Wells Fargo lighting their building for "Coming Out Day". But it IS their prerogative.
But you know what else? I am NOT a knuckle dragger. I am not "Intolerant, bigoted, racist, or sexist". I am not a bully.
And of what exactly am I ignorant? Enlighten me, please.
What I am is tired of being beaten over the head about this, among many other things. I'm tired of "Oh, I'm different. I need validation. I need attention. Please tell me I'm OK."
But because the comments on this site are not all "Oh that's just wonderful", some people begin insulting and attacking other posters. Look again---the comments here say almost nothing about gay people. They are mainly being smart-asses.
There is ONE insult here, outside of the many hurled by gay supporters. And don't you dare infer that my children, had they been gay, would have received anything but my very best efforts in their upbringing.

So go be different, be whatever you like. I'll bet most Americans couldn't care less.

Making a joke about gay kids committing suicide? That's not the ultimate insult?

What about them lighting the building for Coming Out Day makes you "unhappy"? Because it shows support of being gay?

If your child were gay, would you support them? OR try to change them?

And "being smartass"...really, does that say that making fun of gays is okay? "I was just being smartass".....so it's okay".

Take your "righteous indignation" and put it where the sun don't shine.

You are ignorant of the facts....being "gay" is not a choice, but a condition of genetics.

Do you REALLY believe that people would make that "choice", knowing the ridicule and actual danger that places them in????

Puleeeeze!

Anonymous 6:47 you are so right!

Like you said: "Gay is not a choice, but a condition" ..... like Pedophilia, Bestiality, and Necrophilia.

I don't see a joke about suicide. Who made it? Such a joke would be completely out of bounds.

I'm not happy because it's one more chickenshit corporation bowing to pressure from a very small but loud minority. And no, this is not the new civil rights movement.

My children are not gay (far as I know), and you're still making wild assumptions about my reaction if they were. Baseless. You don't know me.

Everybody gets made fun of at some point. The intent is important. 90% of this post is harmless. Admit it. (And I do not defend the other 10%)

I'm not particularly indignant. Sorry.

I totally agree. Homosexuality cannot be a choice. Your logic is mine exactly. Who would submit to all that by choice? I never woke up one day & said "I think I'll be a heterosexual". I never said it was a choice.

I think its pretty stupid of Duke Energy and Wells Fargo.

I don't care about the gays, lesbos, dikes, cross dressers and bi-sexuals. They can do whatever they want but do force your crap on me and lighting up a building in a rainbow is just stuip because the skyline of Charlotte belongs to everyone.

Anonymous said...

I think the gay supporters should lobby for the building to be lit in rainbow colors EVERYDAY, not just one. It's discrimatory to not highlight 365 days a year that some users of Duke Energy are gay.

First...don't misquote me, I said a condition of genetics...not a "condition".

And you are one ignorant ahole to compare being gay to pedophilia, bestiality and necrophilia....just plain old ignorant.

Anon 8:38....another mental giant.
Yep, the skyline belongs to EVERYONE, including gays, lesbian, etc. If they have to put up with it being lit up for football or whatever, then they certainly are entitled to have their cause supported.

DWright:

"I don't have any reason to hate gays I just can see myself looking at some dudes hairy ass and think Yum Yum!

If I did I'd want to kill myself too!"

There you go.....is that "harmless"?
And no, I do not agree that 90% is harmless....that's what they used to say about discrimination against african americans AND women. It is NOT harmless, it perpetuates stereotypes and is uninformed, cruel humor at someone elses expense..period.

And I don't think I ever said it was the new "civil rights" movement....but there are many similarities.

And you didn't answer my question, would you support your child if he/she were gay? Or would you try to change them or "talk them out of it"?

Anon 8:40:
Great rhetorical skills you've got there.....and how old are you?

It is almost impossible to have any kind of an intelligent conversation on this blog....it seems to attract
close minded, juvenile thinking
bigots.

Anon 9:25, don't get your panties in a wad. You must be a real pleasure to hang out with. Now get back to the I-85 rest stop.

Anon 10:54

It's usually the latent homosexuals who are so overtly threatened by the mention of "gay".....I'm betting you're one of those...on the down low, are you? Come on out.

I imagine people like to "hang out" with me just a tad more than they would with you....I have a brain.
You are a moron.

And I'm a "girl"...do girls hang out at that rest stop with gay men?
Are you saying that all gay men like to hang out at rest stops?
That makes about as much sense as saying all football players like to send women pictures of their penises because Brett Farve did.

Like I said, useless to try to have an intelligent conversation.

Yes, I thought it was harmless. He didn't advocate violence or any action at all really. He may feel
that way, or he's just another smartass. I don't know him, so I won't speculate. But I do know we see the remark from different points of view. I admit from another perspective, it may have ticked me off. That's the best I can do.

I dropped the Civil Rights Movement remark because I knew in my heart that you would mention
it in your very next post. Which you did.

As far as my kid's upbringing, if we were sitting having a drink & a civil discourse, I might address
that. (plus I thought it was a rhetorical question) But not here. But - they're my children.
I would do what I did: my very best. You can't "convert" gay people anyway. So that's enough of that.

This has gone way beyond my original observation.

Say goodnight, Gracie.

Hey DW,
I didn't mention the civil rights movement until you did, really didn't think about it until you brought it up.

And really, you can't "convert" gays and lesbians? Who knew? Duh, DW, that was the point I was trying to make....they are born gay as we are born heterosexual.

You are the only person responding with intelligence in this thread....the rest is just white noise.

DWright1 said...

Oh well, I was done with this until... Thanks for the compliment. I didn't start out to argue about homosexuality. My first post was more about people clamoring for attention. Plus posters hurling insults.

I get a sarcastic "Duh" for agreeing totally with your point about being born how we are? I agree, already. Pick a fight about something else.

I enjoyed it, but I'm done now. (Get a screeen name so we 'll recognize each other next time)

Why would anybody object to a show of solidarity with the LGBT community? How is that (or being gay, for that matter) hurting anybody? Seriously shouldn't we be past this debate by now?
