Dumb Crook = Dead Crook Matthew Ward's Shocking End

The Charlotte Observer is reporting that 29 year old Matthew Warren Ward is dead after being electrocuted late Monday night.

Seems the Stanley man was trying to steal copper wire from a Duke Energy substation.

"A 911 call about 11:40 p.m. Monday reported a possible fire at the Duke Energy substation on Hovis Road in Stanley. Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze, but they couldn't reach Ward's body because of downed power lines that were still active.

Gaston County Police believe Ward committed a similar theft at the same location less than a week ago. He had numerous charges in break-ins and thefts, which were pending trial."

Just to give you an idea of what might have happened check out this video.

Cedar's Take: I'm pretty tired of dark interstate highways and dumb crooks. Charlotte's I-77, 85 and 485 are darkened canyons of asphalt and concrete because some jerk was able to yank the wires out and sell them for scrap at a local junk yard. The profits go to the scrap dealer and the crook and the tax payers get stuck with the bill.

Answer: Establishment of a city ordnance and state law that prohibits the purchase of copper wires and tubing by junk and scrap dealers. Isn't this what law makers are supposed to do?

This already happened on The Wire. That show is prophetic. Charlotte is becoming Baltimore.
