When Cops Go Rogue or Is It Something More?

Not a whole lot to say about this expect that it was clearly a bad shoot.

Hard to say what was going through this officer's mind when the perp made a run for it. Willie (Walter Scott) wasn't very fast to begin with, easy to spot (fat black guy green tshirt missing a shoe), the middle of the day, no weapons, no warrants beyond a child support bench warrant, so what was the point of shooting him?

It doesn't look like there was any rage, he just mater of factly shot the guy. Forget the racism bull shit. There is no indication that this officer was a nego hating racist. Just a guy who mad a bad choice.

But why?

My thought is lack of training. Major lack of training.

Its rogue, not rouge, unless the cop turned a nice shade of red.

Was it lack of training or just the prevailing attitude in his police department? You're right, Cedar. Nothing about it made sense. Just for once I wish one of these men would honestly explain what they were thinking. Or if they were thinking anything at all.

What's the latest on the airport officer lawsuit?

Enough about the airport. No one cares.

The ones that are getting paid out care. Lots of money coming their way

Given the evidence available at this time, this cop screwed up big time. The media and "experts" will move forward in the coming weeks and months to determine if it is training based, policy, social norms, etc as to the reasoning for this event, but the officer be convicted unless he comes up with some compelling reason that he fired (such as he thought the taser was still in play--ie he didn't see it dropped). However, given the events in this country with police and minorities, the authorities are doing the right thing: They charged him based on the evidence, condemned his alleged actions, and turned the investigation over to SLED.

Have we forgotten about the Kerrick case, where the suspect was sprinting towards the officer as opposed to running away?

This story is still being investigated. The bunch of handlers from Trayvon. and Ferguson are repping the family. News media going right along. In Charleston.

4:21 I think we all would like to forget about the Kerrick case and the shit storm that's gonna happen when he's found not guilty

Being a retired cop I can attest to the fact that officers today are a little quick to switch to missiles. There was a time when we had nothing more than a baton and a pistol on our duty belt. If you could not, or were scared to go hands on with a suspect you didn't last long in the profession. And yes, I had my ass handed to me more times than I can remember during some of those encounters. You had little choice but to hang on until you heard the soothing sound of sirens coming your way. We sometimes lost the battles but we very seldom lost the wars......

based on the video, the cop was a trigger happy psycho, and I can't imagine what evidence they could produce that would prove otherwise. Hopefully the punishment will fit the crime.

With that said, I believe the story at the link below deserved to be punished for what it was also. http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/man-20-charged-misdemeanor-st-louis-train-attack-30037007

Hmmm, not so cut and dry after all. I find it very interesting that the media keeps proclaiming that the officer has "lied" on his official account of what happened, but his statement hasn't been released to the media yet. The media is spinning this case like a top. I wouldn't care but isn't that CMPD officers trial coming up soon? Charlotte is gonna burn.. just watch.

5:06, I think you're right about Charlotte burning. I'd hate to think they'd use the current evac plan for CC and try to clear the trouble makers that way. It would be a poor response to a city wide guerilla campaign.

Our infrastructure and response agencies are not set up for multiple strikes on that scale--biggest vulnerability besides brass egos at the wheel

I doubt Charlotte will have too much trouble.

If The Chief has a relationship with Holder and Holder is close to Sharpton, I don't think there will be much of a problem here.

All I can say is keep your eyes open and have situational awareness at all times no matter what, but especially when that all goes down. And I'm talking to you tobacco and smartphone lovers in particular. You think there's alot of shots coming off Farm Pond now...

Have there been any officer shootings of unarmed white men? I just wonder if this actually happens to all races pretty equally but we only hear one side of it?
