Charlotte Fire and the Letter

Its often hard gauge fact without a base line. We are bombarded with never ending claims of racism and sexism to a point where the never ending claims become the new base line so that only the most horrific repulsive acts get our attention.

WSOC read excerpts from the above letter, CP has not seen a full copy of the letter but it seems to continue a plot from the past several years.

Wonder what you think?

Nothing. Thats what I think.

They should come forward with specific complaints that would require investigation. Name names. Dates. They could probably identify a section and date range of promotions or testing or something without giving their name if they are not comfortable. It might be more protection for them to use their own name. They could probably have a brief consult with an attorney about this for free or little money. They could go outside the immediate area and do something by phone.
Is this one letter? Several? From one person/source or more? Why isn't there more information? Can you ask WSOC if they plan to contact the source or are able?

The letter writers are just a small group (3-8) of people within the CFD. Anyone who has been employed for 10-20 years know who they are. There is one who wasn't promoted to Battalion Chief and instead of asking why or trying harder, this person complains and writes letters. They suck as a Captain and have no business being a Captain, God forbid promoted to Battalion Chief! Are there problems and issues within CFD, sure there is. No different than most other places. It boils down to a select few think they are "owed" something. You aren't owed shit! Instead of complaining and writing letters about some non-existent conspiracy, start looking at yourself and why you didn't make the cut. Improve yourself and make yourself a better candidate for promotion. Watch, in a year or two most of this crap will stop...when they retire. I agree, stop hiding behind anonymous letters and come forward. Truth be told they are two faced and most everyone knows who they are...

If the Uniters and the Union ever get together the fire dept will be fixed. The reality of it all is those that have retired in the last year are driving the division. Talk people you can fix it. The ones calling people bitter are the ones that are bitter. The retirees eat together regular. There are a couple that are still pissed off. Just quit listening to them. We are Retired. It’s your fire dept now.

It appears some people at the fire dept have employeed the Observer in trying to force the City Manager to put an inside chief in place. That would be a mistake. All of the insiders were as quilty as Hannan. They watched it and did nothing.

I couldn't agree with the above comment anymore than I do. All the Deputies saw and did NOTHING! D/C Grainger and Gordon have their own baggage and checkered past and in my opinion should leave or better be fired!!

Yaddah yaddah yaddah .... I get it, the fire department sux.

The fire department does not suck. I am a resident of this city and had a horrible experience and the firefighters that showed up were courteous and did everything they could do. I was so thankful for what they did. The behavior of the bosses has never changed my opinion of the brave men and women that do this job. Those in power will always be corrupt unless checked. Workers on the other hand are a different story they always have someone to keep them in check. Clean out the headquarters I agree but the firefighters in the fire stations they are too notch.

Too bad the Police Department, Manager's Department, City Council and other departments are a different story. Not top notch and nobody tells the truth.

It may be true there are many great firefighters but it can't be true that all of them spoke up about corruption they knew about or it would have come to light sooner. And if the other DC's are corrupt and still there, that answers the question: The otherwise great firefighters are still not telling the truth. If they were, the bad DC's wouldn't be there. If you don't speak up about lying, cheating, abuse, you will get what you deserve which is to keep being subjected to it the way you subject the rest of the city to it by remaining silent about the information you have.

The philosophy of "not my responsibility" doesn't work with the claims that you make about taking care of your fellow firefighter/officer or pride in your badge. Stop half-assing and do the right thing all the time.

Enough with the letter writting!!! It's getting old. Now you're just labeled a "Keyboard Complainer." Step up and quit hiding behind a keyboard, grow a set of balls and let your identity be known. But, you're to chicken-shit to put a face in public because you're two-faced. The only thing that is being accomplished is more division. Be careful what you wish for, sometimes the green grass actually is covering a septic tank.

Agreed on anonymous letters. The chiefs process is not worth throwing your members under the bus. When only one person had a picture or letter with a stamp on it everyone knows who sent it out. Just sign your name. To another point above. You can’t watch somebody get crapped on over and over and not do anything and then expect to be the fire chief. Leadership is about having dirty fingernails every once in a while and if required a black eye in defense of your personnel.

No kidding looks like Wyatt Earpe Smith and Obi Juan can both continue sending anonymous letters in their retirements.

The latest letter to arrive at fire stations this week was dated from February of 2017! How the hell is it relevant? Chief Hannan retired in August. What purpose did this recent letter serve? Certainly it didnt bring new information. Just regurgitated old shit everyone already knew. The only thing you was waste your time running to every different post office in Charlotte close to a fire station, waste your gas, and wasted money in a stamp, paper, and an envelope. I say waste, because as soon as we opened it, it went in the recycle bin. It would make better bird cage liner. The longer this Soap Opera goes on, the less credibility and respect you have. Stand up, step from behind the curtain, and let yourself be known. We all pretty much have it narrowed down to a handful of people, so much to your surprise, it will not be a shock to anyone. The only one you're playing for a fool is yourself. But, you're too much of a two-faced coward to let your identity known. With every new letter or new episode, it's getting old, tired, and boring. Do yourself and everyone a favor and step forward or shut up already, and for Christ sake, quit writting letters. Save a tree, and saving the environment is a better use of your time.
