Thugs Under 18 No Longer Public Information Regardless of the Crime

Five Charlotte teenagers are now charged with comitting a violent daylight felony this past Thursday, but you will likely never know who they are thanks to a new North Carolina law that treats 16 and 17 year old thugs as juveniles.

From WBTV:

Five teenagers face robbery charges after police say they stole a car at a west Charlotte gas station.

It happened Thursday at a Circle K on Old Little Rock Road.

Police say one of the teens flashed a gun at the owner of the car when he came out to try to stop them. The car’s owner left his keys in the ignition and an AK-47 in the vehicle, according to police.

Terry Jackson works at the barber shop across the street and says he saw the exchange.

“Pow, pow, pow. I look, see a guy chasing a vehicle. I really didn’t know what was going on. And like it was like cause it’s the intersection right here and he was like trying to gun them down," said Jackson.

The scare for Jackson was similar to what other people felt in businesses close by.

“You’re in here doing laundry then shots fired is scary. Yeah, 'cause bullets don’t have any eyes they can go here and there," said Sandra Rann, a customer at the Laundromat across the street.

“Bullets have no names. Go wherever they go," said one business owner across the street. “It’s not something that you expect. It’s not something that you will necessarily want around here, especially when you have like all these businesses and you have people walking around here driving through here all the time you know.” Jackson says he saw bullets come from the person whose car was stolen and the teens.

“I heard about three, four gunshots. So when I kind of like glanced to the right, I seen a young man chasing a car out here on Little Rock Road. And he was firing behind the car like, I want to say five, six shots after," said Jackson.

“It’s very sad, you know that that’s our youth doing that," said Rann. “I’m scared of guns. So, but I’m told you can get them anywhere. You know, they are for protection, but the people are not protected.”

Police brought out helicopters and multiple patrol units to find the stolen car.

“Wow, they playing chicken with they life. Dangerous. Danger," said Jackson. “These kids need to quit playing, being dangerous with the lives and doing unpredictable stuff that may get them in jail, dead, it’s serious out here.”

Less than three hours after the carjacking, police stopped a Mercury Mountaineer at the intersection of Freedom Drive and Thrift Road and detained all occupants of the vehicle.

Police later recovered the Chevrolet Impala.

Police charged the boys -- two 15-year-olds, two 16-year-olds and a 17-year-old -- with armed robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robbery and two counts of felony larceny. One of the 16-year-olds was also charged with carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a handgun by a minor.

The 16 and 17 year olds were charged as juveniles following the state’s “Raise the Age” legislation that went into place in late 2019. The 15 year olds are also being charged as a juvenile.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call 911. The public can also leave anonymous information by contacting Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600. This remains an active investigation.

Cedar's Take: The reporting by WBTV's weekend staff is a little hard to follow but the bottom line is there will be no mug shots and no release of the suspect's names.

New law is terrible. Pansy asses in state senate could have stopped it. Most of these knob heads cant be rehabilitated and will use the new law to their full advantage to keep the thug life going till they end up eating a bullet in their late teens or early twenties.

watch your six, get your time in and get the hell out. meck is gone full hood and ain’t coming back.

This is funny as shit. Five of these geniuses decided to steal a car in the middle of the morning and we can assume not one of them said "hey bro that is a stupid idea" now they are all going to turn on each other. Like a bunch of caged up rats. Maybe someone will post their names? But for now let's just call them:

what? You don't like those names?

ok what about

Hummm just what I though.

You'll notice WBTV doesn't identify them as being white, black, Hispanic or even Asian.

Is that because we are being open mined or is it because we all know the thugs aren't named Jacob or Dustin?

Anyone see that little mexican boy get his face slashed with a razor on the east side? I bet his family wish they never came to USA. Every year, the situation gets worse in Charlotte.

2:36 PM.....Spot on.

3:12 PM.....Yeah. Everyone knows.

Seems that the worse things get, the more the political geniuses are trying to make it for the criminals.

There's only one logical conclusion to this path: Anarchy and folks just taking care of it themselves. Open season on robbers, burglars, Vehicle B&E artists, and what-not.

Hey. If Government wants a monopoly on 'Law & Order', they'd better start learning which side of the bread is buttered.

Meant to say 'make it "EASIER" for the criminals'......

Hows abouts you cops just do as you are told? Stop thinking so much, and follow your orders. Do what you are good at. Solve some of these murders and shootings. Mayor Lyles is taking this city into a brighter future. Just watch what happens!

12:51 Vi Lyles has the leadership skills of a squirrel its all about the nuts. Beyond wacky ideas and selfies she is as worthless as tits on a mule.

Homicide clearance rate is close to 80%. Find another large city with a rate anywhere close ! It’s next to impossible.

80% or even close is excellent. And you can't do much more than solve these crimes as they happen. But that 80% doesn't translate into convictions or life sentences. The only way to slow down the homicide rate in Charlotte is to get these violent thugs off the streets. These five little f*^%ers need to be boxcar'd and not see daylight for 20 years. I don't care if they are 12 years old. Commit a violent crime with a weapon and it is game over.

Just because the case is cleared doesn't mean they did it or that they are going to jail. I wonder how many of these guys get off with nothing but a short jail stay?

Hopefully more people will protect themselves and put down the violent ones. A victim shot two suspects last night, good for him or her.

Anyway to take out life insurance policies on these kids? It's an easy way to get the retirement fund back. No way even 1 of those 5 makes it to 40. If he does, it will be over in Anson CI.
