Mount Katahdin What Are You Waiting For?

As Eastcoasters, our mountains are often scoffed at by many so called "technical" climbers out west.

Admittedly Mt. Mitchell at 6,683 isn't much of a challenge since most people "summit" by driving the parking lot and walking the final 35 feet to the top.

On the other hand hiking Mt. Katahdin's Cathedral trail or trekking the 3 foot wide Knife's Edge isn't for the weak or timid. Sure its not technical, but it takes skill and endurance just the same.

First just getting there is a challenge, this is no stay at the Hilton, have a hot breakfast then scale Yosemite's half dome for lunch and meet up with friends for happy hour at 4. It takes some planning, a lot of driving and about ten hours.

But the view in the early summer or even late fall is awesome.

Years back I posted a short about my first climb and it is here.

Now many seasons later I'm thinking what took me so long? So here's my advice "if you don't do it this year you'll only be another year older when you do". (Thanks Warren Miller).
