Observer Reports a Shooting with Knives

"Shooting leaves one dead, two injured"

Reads the Observer Headline*, but the rest of the story says stabbing.

I know budget cuts, staff layoffs and the usual excuse, "In order to get the story on line we sometimes make mistakes" are all nice reasons for shoddy work. But I've seen this so many times in the last 12 months it makes me wonder.

I think I should send the news room a case of "RED BULL".

Here's the copy as of 2:00 PM Sunday:

An ongoing dispute erupted early today into a melee in a northeast Charlotte parking lot that left one dead and two injured with life-threatening injuries.

Police have identified the dead man, but won't release his name until family members are notified. He died from a stab wound and the other two also were stabbed during the fight.

The incident took place about 2:30 a.m. at the Townhomes of Ashebrook at 1939 Eastway Drive. It stemmed from an earlier verbal disagreement at a local bar, according to police. When police arrived to the lot, there were three victims suffering from multiple stab wounds. They were taken to Carolinas Medical Center.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 704-432-TIPS and speak directly to a homicide detective. Detective A. Fant is the lead detective assigned to the case. In addition, you may also call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.

I suggest if you want the news on things like this get it from CMPD.org where the facts are reported as:

(3) H/M victims were stabbed multiple times by unknown H/M suspects. All three victims were transported to CMC with life threatening injuries. One victim was later pronounced at the hospital. Homicide Detectives investigating.

Sure RoMo is cooking the books but at least he knows the difference between a shooting and a stabbing.

*Corrected at 4:00 PM Sunday.

MONDAY FOLLOW UP!

The Observer followed up with coverage of the arrest of Carlos Octaviano Andres, 25 on murder charges. Sadly for the Observer they mispelled Eastway Drive. Just too funny if you ask CP!

Top of the gene pool: Whoever brings a pistol to a knife fight is usually the winner.
