Grand Jury Looks at Mecklenburg ABC Board

The news this afternoon is that a federal grand jury has subpoenaed at least two Mecklenburg ABC employees. Administrative assistant Dawn Carey and Chief Financial Officer Mike Tulley received subpoenas several weeks ago from an FBI agent, who delivered them at the board's offices on North Tryon Street.

WCNC is reporting that the grand jury is interested in no-bid contracts surrounding the purchase and development of real estate for stores. More details from WCNC here and the Charlotte Observer here.

Just thinking out loud, but several weeks ago would pretty well coincide with Parks Helms sudden resignation. Perhaps that is more to all of this than the BOCC and ABC Board have let out of the bag.

Between the ABC, DSS, BOCC, CHA and CMPD we Charlotte have a mess on our hands.

I have no faith in any Federal Grand Jury, weren't they supposed to be looking into the DSS mess too? Haven't heard a word on it so far

I agree Cedar Helms bailed because he knew the Feds were closing in on his swarmmy operation!
