5 Murders in 5 Days - Chief Monroe Responds

Subject: Statement from Chief Monroe

The five homicides that our community has experienced over the last five days are troubling; anytime a community experiences a senseless loss of life it is tragic.

I want to ensure our citizens that the CMPD is working aggressively to bring resolution to each and every one of these cases. Investigative Units have made arrests in two of the four homicide cases that have occurred this week including the homicide of Jermaine McJunkins that occurred on Mattoon St. last night and the homicide of Michael Pernell Smith that occurred on Camrose Dr. this past Sunday.

The department has a full compliment of investigative and patrol units working these four cases around the clock and we anticipate additional arrests. Our investigations lead us to believe these murders involve relationships between known associates. None of these four cases are random acts of violence.

The CMPD has increased patrols in neighborhoods affected by these recent cases providing a visible presence to ensure the safety of our citizens. We have deployed specialized units including VCAT , Firearms, Vice/Narcotics and Gang to develop vital information. We continue to receive information from community members that will assist us in solving these cases. The Homicide Unit encourages anyone with information to contact them on the Tips line at 704-432-TIPS.

Chief of Police

It's nice to know that while he is on vacation (reported by WSOC TV last night) that at least he acknowledges there is a problem! That's a first...usually he is trying to come up with some BS, but just can't deny murder, now can he?

Cedar, don't you have a real job? Enough about Monroe already! You know he's here to stay and you're just hitting your head against the wall if you think anything you say makes any difference. Good God man give it up!

Maybe hitting his head but at least HE reports the truth and not just a bunch of fluff!

And one day RuttMutt will leave, I have faith that all corruption and cronyism will one day be weeded out! Even if you don't!

I can't believe there are people out that defend him, oh yeah I forgot some of you need a promotion rather you earned it or not!

Keep up the good work Cedar the guys at Eastway and Metro read your blog everyday. We don't always agree but we do support all of your efforts to keep the truth and the facts out there.

All I know is that the once respectful CMPD officers have become a bunch of nazi skin heads at least during the Bobcats final games. What is up with that? Pressure from RoMo I'd guess.

And some of us out here realize EVERY officer at CMPD (not just a selected few) deserve the best in leadership, direction and training! THAT is why I support CMPD and CEDAR! (just not Rutt Mutt) LOL....

This is written so poorly, he must have done it. You don't "ensure" citizens, you "assure". And if you made arrests in two of the four cases, it's not "including" McJunkins and Smith. And the it should be "complement", not "compliment".

Me thinks he needs ta finish that thar dagree of hiz! ROFLMAO!

Actually, these days it is hard for me to critize his writing when mine has become so bad! Words seem to confuse me the memory loss I've experienced since my treatments sucks!

Used to type 60-65 WPM without error, hell these days I can't even remember the words I want to use! LOL...but I am HERE today and that is what IS important (at least per my family).

Why does rodney think saying that the murders are "not random acts of violence" somehow calms the masses?

Violence begets violence and sooner or later an innocent bystander will be maimed or murdered.

And homicides in a city make that city not so safe.

How about the number of children that have been caught in the crossfire?
They don't care if you label it "not a random act of violence". It is pretty ramdom to them!

Trying to put "spin" on homicides is disingenuous and really low.

Officers on the street understand this, rodney doesn't.

Nazi skin head officers? What needle have you been putting in your arm? For 1, the officers are still respected and 2, I thought all the hoop la was Monroe hiring and promoting too many black folks. So is it too many black folks or too many skin heads? I'm confused!

I think it is great that Chief Monroe is going to increase patrols to prevent more murders.

But wasn't "compstat" supposed to predict where crimes would occur?

Guess thats another 100k RoMo spent gone to dirt.

You know all of these murders have been drug and or gang related. Honestly you can't prevent the next crime no matter how many analyst and Rac's, you put in the same room you can't predict where a murders gonna take place. The only way to stop crime is to punish the individuals who actually commit the crimes. Instead of throwing good money after bad why not take it and build a bigger damn jail and keep the thugs in jail. Not pretend rehabilitaion it doesnt work- ask Romo ask him about his rehabilitation of Black men in Richmond- he and Richmond PD were large supporters of a project in Richmond that hasnt produced any type of real progress towards rehabilitation of offenders. Monroe doesnt know what he is talking about . He has faked everything for the last 30 yrs and now he can't fake it anymore, no matter who you put in as your 2nd in command they won't be able to help you either.

Actually CMPD has done quite well without Monroe thise week! I think they pretty much got all of and those they don't have they know who they are?

GO CMPD! One for the "REAL" good guys :-)

5 bodies in as many days, and everyone involved knew each other. "Not a Random act of violence" Well that doesn't mean they were best buddies or even family. It was more than likely doper killing/robbing dopee, or the other way around. There will be more to follow I am sure. When you are explaining to Deputy Chief's how much dope you are taking off the street and the amount of assets you are seizing for the department to use to help continue the fight against the drug problem and they don't even acknowledge that, but ask you if you questioned the suspects about their knowledge of car breakin's then something is missing. Someone has to look at the big picture.

I completely agree with Anon 8:29, these types of violent crimes are absolutely impossible to predict and there is no way to stop them unless by some act of God, you are right there when it happens and you are able to intervene and stop the act. Anon 8:29 is absolutely right when he/she said that the ONLY way to stop these crimes is to take the criminals OFF THE STREETS. Tara Servatius wrote an awesome article, in Creative Loafing I think, about how it is almost scientific to track the criminal paths of most homicide suspects. She showed several examples of how just about all of them start with car break-ins, move up to auto thefts, then to breaking and entering, and finish up their resume with murder. I couldn't agree more. In my years as a police officer, I don't think that I have EVER seen a bulletin go out to be on the lookout for a murder suspect, and that bulletin not include one of the suspect's previous arrest photos. You almost never see a murder suspect without a prior arrest history...so Anon 8:29 is right, to stop violent crime in Mecklenburg County, maybe we should start prosecuting criminals instead of giving them suspended sentences and probation for major felonies.

Could not agree more...you are correct!

Cedar,
Just heard from my friends at CMPD that the "chief" is going after someone else.....another case of being on the wrong side of the "chief" and not kissing his behind.

From what I have heard, this particular person has lots of support from troops and brass....just not from rodney and his cohorts.

I will be listening to my friends carefully on this one, as I think, from what I have heard, this person has plenty of integrity and is a good, honest person and leader. Maybe he will be the one to give a news conference? :O) One could only hope!

It will be interesting to see how this plays out........

Maybe this is the person someone keeps referring to that won't go "quietly"? Don't know.....

But from what I am told, seems like they are trying to stack the deck and pull a "BB" on him.

We shall see.

I heard the same thing.

I also heard that this person is so well liked and respected that if he is railroaded, this may be the time that others finally take a stand.

It never seems to amaze me the depths that this regime will stoop to to solidify their illusion of total control and "rid" the ranks of any dissenters.....much like a Dictator in a Banana Republic.

If you don't join us in lock/goose step, off with your heads!!

Quite amazing in this day and age that someone so blatantly corrupt that has lied and manufactured his way to the "top" could continue to get away with it.

We go after dictators in foreign countries, but allow one to flourish in our city.

Kind of mind boggling, isn't it?

Cedar,
I know you haven't posted much about rodney recently....he has been trying to stay under the radar.

I just wanted you to know that it is "business as usual" at CMPD in regards to "the rod who thinks he is a god".

Morale is still in the toilet, the "inner circle" still rules, reverse discrimination is still alive and well. He has just gotten a little better at keeping a lower profile, and you know that has GOT to be killing him, 'cause he does like to be a "rock star".

I am told by friends at CMPD that he is going to be here at least another 2 years, so he can get a "retirement" from Charlotte.

So for most at CMPD, it's just a matter of "grin and bear it" until he "retires". Just think of the damage he can do in TWO more years, omg.

His bias against white officers and his favoritism to african american officers is more than blatant, it is right "in your face". And he doesn't care, he continues to get away with his reverse discrimination and divide the department right down racial lines.

From what I am told, there is virtually no leadership at the top...as rodney doesn't lead, he dictates. And all the deputy chiefs, all but KP, are so far up his butt it's not even remotely funny.

The stories that will emerge when he finally leaves will be mind boggling......and Curt Walton should hope that he has moved on to screw up another city as CM.

So it looks like, from what I am told, that Charlotte will continue to have a "chief" that has lied his way into the job, and continues to lie to keep his job, for at least another few years.

Such a pity what he has done to CMPD.
