The Charlotte Mecklenburg Utilities Department has admitted the obvious and announced that they have hired an outside contractor to check 9000 meters to see if there is a problem.
The Charlotte Observer and News Channel 36 are reporting that "the audit" will begin next Wednesday. Read the Observer Story here.
So CMUD throws up their hands and hires a company to inspect 9000 meters at a reported cost of $99,000.00.
Whoa.... wait just a second.
$99k divided by 9000 equals, $11.00 per meter..... ain't no way this is going to be anything but a white wash.
There is no way you can field a truck and randomly check 9000 meters throughout the county for only 100k. I bet the real deal is they will randomly sample some of 9000 addresses and issue a report. Heck I'd be surprised if they even have that much effort in the project. How about they just drive by a say it all looked good when they were there?
Sounds like a scam to me.
