On Wednesday The Charlotte Observer's always entertaining columnist Tommy Tomlinson wrote a nice warm and fuzzy story about marriage, with the Al and Tipper Gore separation as the lead-in.
But leave it to the editors of the Observer's On-Line Edition to give Tommy's story titled "The mysteries - and - surprises - of a long marriage" entertaining placement right above the story titled "Man 90 - Kills Wife With Hatchet".
To Quote Tommy: "Over the years I’ve met lots of couples who’s been married 40, 50, 60 years or more. We like to think of those marriages as soft and comfortable, like a pair of old slippers.
But sometimes I’ve met couples who can hardly tolerate each other – or worse, are bored to death with each other.
Wonder if Tommy knew the couple in South Carolina?
Nice to know that the Observer has a sense of humor, dark as it may be.
But the stupidness doesn't stop there, at the end of the murder story is the sentence,"There was no answer at a telephone number listed for the couple's home."
Really? No Answer? How odd, maybe that is because one of the people who live there is dead and the other in jail? Jeeeezzzz!
By late Wednesday the Observer Staff had moved the placement of the AX Murder story, but Thursday morning the sillyness was back placing Tomlinson's story over the report of another affair involving South Carolina candidate for governor Nikki Haley.
I know with budget cuts, things like this are bound to happen, but it sure does seem to happen a lot lately.
