Sunday finds Charlotte's Engine 19 parked in the "Fire Lane" in front of the WalMart at the Arboretum Shopping Center. Come on guys lead by example!

Makes sense to me Cedar. They are still on duty when in the store, and if a call comes in, have to leave in a timely manner. Where would you have them park?

Here is my thinking; most CFD trucks park out in the lot when they are making the grocery run.

They are "out of service" even if they are still on the job.

Normally they park out in the lot since it really takes no time at all to jog/run to the truck and being out in the lot means considerably less traffic and pedestrians to worry about prior to exiting the center and heading down the road.

I'm not sure what they were doing but they were there for better than 1/2 hour.

The area in front of WalMart is tight and gets a lot of traffic even on a Sunday morning.

Now Cedar, What are you doing?

Be Nice!!

Leave the CFD alone. You are thinking way too much.

Fire Lane for Fire Trucks, now I could understand if it was a Captain or higher, City car which carries no equipment on it to render effective services. Even if the truck was out of service, they can be called into service in an instant unless the truck is down at the garage for repairs. I don't see many parking lots for slots allocated for any Emergency Services and the few that do, I have seen non emergency vehicles take those spots.

Cedar I think you're correct they are not to treat the "fire lane" as a reserved parking space. I'd guess something was up at Walmart maybe a false alarm?

But it doesn't look like the lights are on and if I didn't know better they are far from either door.

Maybe they were checking the FDC?

Are you kidding? Do you really think that if a fire or other emergency occurred they wouldn't act? Seems to me that's the best place they could park, then they don't have to move the truck if something does happen, and while they may be "out of service", they can still respond if needed.

I think they were worried it was going to rain and it did.

Cedar Post, you sound like a disgruntled citizen? Get a life please! Fire Lane... Fire Truck! If an emergency were to happen @ the Walmart involving you, your child or parent, would u have them run out to the parking lot and move the truck into the fire lane wasting critical seconds, minutes? Use your brain, are you kidding me! Your time could be better utilized instead of knit-picking the men and woman who put their LIVES on the line EVERYDAY for you and me. I vote for fire trucks in fire lanes emergency or not! Let's give them the best chance to be in position to do their jobs ALL THE Time!

We asked the Charlotte Fire Department to comment about Engine 19 parking in the fire lane for non emergency purposes and we'll let you know what they say.

As far as non-emergency purposes, you have no idea why they were there. And second, why do you care so much? Seriously, what switch has flipped in your brain that makes you think CFD parking in the fire lane is a problem? The nit-picking of everyone in the emergency services has just gotten ridiculous. Instead of complaining about where they park, why don't you leave a note on the truck thanking them for their service and sacrifice.

It is for Fire Department Vehicles only- whats the problem....find something else ...

Perhaps it was for checking Fire Alarms....checking for blocked fire exits...proper signage....making sure the store was "up to code"...etc....could be a legit visit without having a fire
