From WSOC: The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s radio system failed for several minutes on Monday morning.
It was the second time in the last week that the department had had problems with the system. For about 10 minutes last Monday morning and about eight minutes this morning, all radios for police and other county agencies stopped working.
There have not been any reports of police officers not responding to or missing calls because of the problem. Officers’ Blackberrys and laptops still worked during the time their radios were down.
The department does a weekly test of the radio system every Monday morning. As part of the test, the system runs off batteries and then switches to a generator. Last week, the generator didn’t kick on. Officials put fixes in place and said the generator worked when tested on Friday.
This morning, officials said they think the generator worked, but the system failed because the batteries didn’t switch to it. They are working to figure out why the switch didn’t happen.
I swear I'm not making this part up: To keep the system from going down next Monday Morning and having the press call it a threepeat CMPD command will not run the weekly test next Monday. Instead they will run the test on a Saturday or late at night. That should fix the problem. Brilliant. - Cedar

The shame is, the vast majority of Officers at CMPD are hard working, honest cops that just want to do a good job and to really "serve and protect".
It's a shame they have a chief they can't look up to and who hinders them more than helps them.

Radios no matter what system you use have always had problems (unless you spend the green to upgrade), there have always been "dead" spots by which the department and the City choose to ignore since it would cost them money and they couldn't take all their nice vacations, The City got lucky that the families of Officer Burnette and Officer Nobles, Oct 5, 1993, didn't sue only because of their grief, since their were many many complaints BEFORE of that area around the airport having those dead spots, have the tapes pulled, will hear it for yourself, they are still public record since the killer is still alive, just another contributing factor to their slayings

Question for Cedar Posts: Who are you? I read somewhere you are not LE, but you seem to be in pretty tight not to have been with the department at one time.

I hope not. But to answer the question.
Cedar Posts remains "Anonymous" because RoMo's directives forbid any CMPD employee sworn or civilian from talking to the media and that includes blogs.
If you want to be reasigned to 3rd shift email or post a comment to Cedar Posts from a CMPD computer.
As recently as last month one officer had his computer and phone taken away because someone thought he was Cedar Posts.
Cedar Posts is NOT a member of CMPD, not now or ever, however with family members and many friends who are CMPD officers the blog will remain "Anonymous".
Agenda other than shaking Rodney's hand on his last day in Charlotte, none.
