CMPD Looking for Brookshire Hit and Run Driver Updated

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police are looking for the driver of the Blue Ford truck or SUV they said struck and killed a pedestrian.

The accident happened around 5 a.m. Sunday in the 4200 Block of Brookshire Boulevard. Police identified the victim as George Lee Calebro, 68.

Police said Calebro was attempting to cross the road when he was hit.

Police said evidence left at the accident scene and video from DOT cameras has allowed them to narrow down their search to a dark blue Ford F-150 Pick Up Truck, and CMPD is requesting the public's assistance in locating it. The vehicle should have extensive damage to the front grill, police said.



Damaged Pick Up Truck might look like this with sections of the honeycomb grill missed as well as other extensive damage.

The suspect vehicle was last seen headed outbound on Brookshire Boulevard, then turning left onto South Hoskins Road.

The driver accused of hit in run A suspect in a deadly accident over the weekend turned himself in, and according to police, confessed to being behind the wheel of the truck which struck and killed a pedestrian Sunday morning.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have charged 44 year old James Edward Johnson with felony hit and run after he surrendered to officers late Monday night.

Johnson also delivered his Ford truck that had obvious damage to the front grill and hood. Crime scene investigators began processing the truck shortly thereafter.

Johnson has some priors according to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's web site and is being held with a $50,000 bond. More details and video of Johnson's truck that has a surprising amount of damage is here.
