Mecklenburg County Commissioners led by chair Jennifer Roberts turned their regular Tuesday evening meeting into a three ring circus.
Roberts as ring master laughed her way through the meeting last night as Charlotte paraded a fascinating line up of freaks, fools and flamers in support and condemnation of Bill James.
A number of speakers quoted the Bible, while others commended James hateful rhetoric by repeatedly calling James a bigot.
The collection of odd balls including the ding dongs on the Board of County Commissioners reminds Cedar Posts of the Mos Eisley Cantina scene in the 1977 Star Wars movie.
In the end the board unanimously adopted a resolution pledging their support for diversity, tolerance and inclusion in the community, while opposing inflammatory speech that could hurt others.
James who also voted in support of the resolution, said he did so in part, because he wasn't named in it and because "it won't really accomplish anything."
Tuesday's insanity started with a dozen emails among board members last week. It involved a letter that Chairman Jennifer Roberts wanted to send to local congressmen about the repeal of don't ask don't tell. And that was all it took to get Bill James fired up and it was down hill from there.
Cedar Post's take: Bill James is a couple fries short of a Happy Meal and as long as he's elected again and again it is best we all recognize this fact.
Notice to all BOCC members: If you or anyone else gets too close to his fence he is going to get all crazy like a junk yard dog. If you walk away he'll settle down, but if you keep taunting him or in this case take a garden hose and give him a good soaking he's just going to keep it up.
James is behind the fence and he's chained up so for God's sake leave him alone and keep your "national" political agenda out of the county's business.
Why Cogdell, and Robert's insisted on holding a freak show when there are so many pressing issues facing our county is beyond me. The scary part is when Vilma Leake starts talking James suddenly comes across as totally sane.
Have a good Wednesday and.... "May the force be with you".
