It's Groundhog Day!!!

It is the 125th Groundhog Day so Cedar Posts offers up some little known myth busting facts about Punxsutawney Phil:

The first Punxsutawney Phil was a badger. Myth or Fact?

Fact! Things didn't work out very well as badgers are late sleepers and very disagreeable when pulled from their borrows. So the folks in PA opted for the more docile groundhog.

Sara Palin's Alaska doesn't have groundhog day. Myth of Fact?

Fact! If they did we wouldn't want to watch, remember the turkeys? More about Alaska's ground hog cousins Here.

Punxsutawney Phil has a twitter account. Myth or Fact?

Myth! @PunxsutawneyPhil exceeds Twitter's allowed number of letters however @visitPA the official tourism website for Pennsylvania, tweets for Phil.

PETA wants to replace Punxsutawney Phil with a robot. Myth or Fact?

Fact! Seems the nut cases at the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) think it's time for the nation's hairiest weatherman to enjoy an early retirement. PETA's proposal: instead of parading and manhandling the wee groundhog, replace ol' Phil with a robot. The full story is here.

Punxsutawney Phil is very accurate. Myth or Fact?

Myth! Sadly Phil is rarely correct with his annual prediction. His record over the last 124 years is only right 39% of the time. Ranking right up there with your local TV weatherman. More about your TV weather forecast here.

And so it goes, another Groundhog Day comes to pass. Shadow or not its a great excuse to slam back a couple of shot with your Cheerios just like they do in Puxsutawney today along with a special shout out to Bill Murray.
