Monday's Odds and Ends

Sarah Palin runs in Iowa Half Marathon - Registered as Sarah Heath (Palin's Maiden Name) the 47 year old finished the 13.1 mile course in a 1 hour and 46 minutes which was good enough to place 2nd in her age group.

Sarah Palin Checks her time at the finish line.

Greta Van Susteren of Fox News posted a photo she said was snapped of Palin during the “Jump Right in and Run” half-marathon the photo is here. Cedar's Take of Sarah Palin from 2008 is here.

Things Are Bleak at the USPS - The system will handle an estimated 167 billion pieces of mail this fiscal year, down 22 percent from five years ago. The agency’s short term plan to stem the red ink a deficit, which will reach $9.2 billion this fiscal year includes eliminating Saturday mail delivery, closing up to 3,700 postal locations and laying off 120,000 workers — nearly one-fifth of the agency’s work force.

Adding 120,000 to the national unemployment roll won't help Obama's jobs plan. The details of the USPS melt down are here.

Weather Hype - Hurricane Irene came and went after nearly a week of around the clock reporting. In its wake flooding and a lot of whining from the folks up north. Yankees did so much yammering that President Obama felt he needed to make a personal visit to New Jersey.

While the folks in the Outer Banks of North Carolina try to figure out how to rebuild the only road the runs the length of Hatteras Island no one expects Air Force One to land at First Flight Airport.

North Carolinians are just a lot more self sufficient than their Yankee counterparts.

American Community Bank - Proudly announced several enhancements effective September 1st, including a name change for their "Free Business Checking" to "Signature Checking" making the point that their "On-line and Bill Pay services will remain free with payment of the $25.00 electronic banking module. The Yadkin Valley bank unit proving that BofA doesn't have a "lock on stupid".

A/T Murder? - Cedar Posts has hiked the A/T Appalachian Trail, albeit only the southern most 8 miles a dozen segments in North Carolina and Virginia and the northern most 10. In all the years hiking the A/T some parts which I consider pretty remote, I've never felt that Deliverance kind of fear. I don't think I've ever met a fellow hiker who wasn't beyond nice.

However according to WBTV The FBI is looking into the death of a hiker who was found along the Appalachian Trail last month.

On Friday, August 12, in the George Washington National Forest located in the northwest part of Amherst County, Virginia hikers found the body of Scott Lilly.

Scott "Stonewall" Lilly - Provided

Lilly known by his trail name of Stonewall was from South Bend Indiana and the FBI says the circumstances surrounding his death are suspicious.

Investigators are hoping to learn more details by talking with other hikers in the area who may have encountered Lilly.

The FBI is seeking several individuals who go by the trail names - "Mr. Coffee", "White Wolf", "Papa Smurf", "Combat Gizmo" and "Space Cadet". The latter two may possibly be husband and wife.

If you know anyone who goes by these names, call the FBI at 1-800-225-5324 and press option #4.

Palin's half marathon is an awful lot like her half term as a Alaska's elected governor.
Irrelevant.

I know a few hikers who tell my they have met some pretty creepy people on the AT. The kind that keep you looking back for miles.

While the normal hike is Georgia to Maine my buddies hiked Katadin to Georgia just to avoid have the same people with them night after night.

For some reason even the segment hikes like to hike north.

Plus who wants to spend a night with Mr. Coffee", "White Wolf", "Papa Smurf", "Combat Gizmo" and "Space Cadet" anyways?

Cedar I thought the same thing about Obama's Jersey Shore visit.

Jeeze its just rain. My God they are so freaking helpless up North!

Not everyone up north is helpless. I grew up in the Buffalo area. Surviving winters there makes you pretty self sufficient.

Palin HA! What a joke! She does get the attention though.

I have to agree with you there, Buffalo has some crazy winters.

Had friends thst live in Toronto who came to Charlotte to visit during one of our "Epic Snowstorms" all 2.44 inches of the white stuff fell overnight.

They didn't say a word as we drove around taking in the Queen City's sudden Christmas Card look. At 7 am on a Saturday morning we were the only ones out on the road looking for breakfast.

They never once made a crack about southern drivers or our fear of snow.

I don't know if it was envy or dismay. But they just sat there dumbfounded at the lack of traffic.

After all they had just left 39 inches of snow enough to cover their mailbox.

I don't think Palin is electable. But she'd sure sell 5 million issues of Playboy.

I rather see her in Hustler, you know, pulling it open, and stuff. That Larry Flynt sure knows a thing or two about marketing.

Cedar,
You must read citynewswatch, their latest Blog is on Crime Stats.

Whomever is behind citynewswatch has got it right.... And is putting into action what you and your readers have been saying for years!!!!!!

They are trying to get to the bottom of many issues at cmpd by going directly to the source....and being STONEWALLED time and time again....which speaks VOLUMES!!!!

And the fact that other news sources have not asked these questions and demanded answers also speaks volumes about the level of corruption at the city level and at cmpd.

You and citynewswatch seem to be the only ones willing to uncover the lies and deception.

And the people covering and lying for Rodney will go down with him, count on it!!!
