Wednesday Odds and Ends DNC Edition

CMPD Cracks Open The Door - Tuesday night WBTV's Brigida Mack took an exclusive look at CMPD's "Top Secert" DNC 2012 Operations Center.

Debbie Wasserman Schultz - Is someone you should expect to see superimposed over the skyline of Charlotte again and again in the coming months. Shultz is the Chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee and a United States congresswoman from Florida.

It was Wasserman-Schultz who in January dismissed most of the Republican presidential field, instead focusing her attacks on Mitt Romney by calling his campaign a "charade" and citing his period as Massachusetts governor in which the state was only 47th of 50th in job creation.

Wasserman-Schultz is as famous for her canned talking points, including "The GOP represents a return to the failed policies of the past", and saying that "Hispanic voters will be repelled by the Republican presidential candidates" as she is for her fuzzy bleached hair.

She is of course pro-abortion, pro-gay marriage, pro-gun control and just slightly left of Karl Marx, and yet missed 62 votes in congress during 2011 putting her in the bottom 10% of all members of the US House of Representatives attendance record.

Despite her record Wasserman-Schultz was selected by President Obama to lead the DNC.

Obama at Bat - With a hat tip to Ernest Lawrence Thayer's Casey at the Bat.

Note: Casey at the Bat was first published in 1888, so if this is over your head, I suspect you are not alone. But the poem ranks right up there with "Who's on First" in baseball lore. In the poem the over confident home town hero lets two pitches go by and then strikes out.

Which to many is counter intuitive, so much so that many assume the Casey is the hero, only to be shocked when in fact Casey is just a little too self assured.

Cedar's Take: I'm counting the days to the first shout of "Play Ball" when the Cardinals and Marlins begin the season on Wednesday, April 4th less than six weeks away. The regular season ends on Wednesday October 3rd.

It is just me or doesn't it seem like all the "exclusive" CMPD access stories are given to reporters of "color"?

Brigetta Mack is one fat stump of a woman. Gomer is pretty tall so I'd guess she's like 5'2" and 200?

I'd have some serious talk with her about cutting back on the donuts if I was WBTV.

The Chief was in a car crash the other day; in his police car. I assume it would be public information.

brilliant job interviewing, Brigida Mack. Really.

Here are a couple of questions you may have wanted to ask if this weren't another PR piece in exchange for your exclusive: Is this conference table or those chairs what cost us $600,000 for the first "command center upfit" to prepare for DNC2012? What about the SECOND $600,000? What about the most recent additional amount--have to check but think there was another close to million spent on "upfitting" the command center.
Must be one heck of a flip board they're using.

And why haven't you gotten the careful spreadsheet CMPD told the press they were using to calculate the $457,000 of supposed costs for Occupy Charlotte guarding?

And you mocked suggestions of armored vehicles, but did you do 5 minutes of research or even ask a question of what vehicles have been purchased or will be in use?

pathetic.

Medlock was his usual Goober self, like a deer in the headlights.

And folks, the "War Room" is a half a million dollar Conference Room.

He didn't remove anything, because there was nothing to "hide" from the prying eyes of the press....give me a freaking break.

And exactly what did that "interview" (I use the term very loosely) tell us???

Not a darn thing, zero, zilch, nada.

Just another PR piece given to Brigida, 'cause she is rodney's friend. They probably cooked it up together.

Everyone sees through every freaking soft soap interview cmpd "gives" the "favorites" that are guaranteed not to ask ANY investigative questions, or any questions of any substance.

There is absolutely nothing "top secret" "cone of silence" about the preparations for the DNC....
Medlock does not have a single freaking clue as to what he is doing.

And you can bet rodney hasn't asked for any help in the preparations, 'cause, you know, he knows it all from his previous manufactured experiences.

I, for one, cannot wait to see Medlock the Magician pull this one out of his hat.....most likely he will be pulling it out of someplace else.

Useless inane "interview".

I think this is RoMo's 3rd or maybe 4th 10-50. The man is a hazard, I know for a fact the most recent two were rear end smash up's. Whatcha bet he was texting and driving?

Yes, and we never ever see his "accidents" in the news.

Our news outlets in Charlotte are afraid of their own shadows!

They couldn't be afraid iof Monroe's little shadow, could they?

Called CMPD tanks “ridiculous”
See here: http://charmeck.org/city/charlotte/CMPD/safety/Pages/Homeland%20Security.aspx

What a waste. Not one piece of useful information, and definite wrong information included in this PR piece set up.
