CMPD Deputy Chief Kerr Putney To Head To Winston Salem

Cedar Posts is hearing from sources that CMPD's most senior Deputy Chief Kerr Putney will leave his post to take command of the Winston Salem Police Department.

If the rumor is true Putney will be the 3rd Deputy Chief to leave the department in as many months.

The current Winston-Salem police Chief Scott Cunningham, is retiring June 30.

Cedar Posts Update: It's official Putney is now formally one of three finalists as reported by the Charlotte Observer on May 22, 2013.

Still hearing that the process is already completed and that the job is Putney's.

Good for him. Just hope the new D/C is someone decent.

This is sad news for CMPD. Chief Putney was one of the few leaders who could have brought dignity back to a department that has drowned in a cesspool of incompetence.

Agree 100%!
So very sorry to see him go, he is the only DC with integrity,
AND intelligence.
He is smart to leave the sinking ship of CMPD.
What a total freaking mess CMPD is thanks to 'ole rodney and his posse.

That's the very reason he is leaving. He is sick of the environment just as everyone else is..... The only escape is to leave. Big loss for CMPD though.

I don't think this rumor is false, but I'm not sure if it intirely true...yet. I talked to some guys from Winston-Salem PD and they said that they heard Chief Putney was a finalist for the Chief's position there but I don't think anyone has been chosen.

But as he is about one of the only intelligent, rational, and respectful leaders left at that position, I'm sure we will lose him and leave us with the filth.

DC Putney is a man of principal and high moral character. Someone that rose through the ranks while not wavering on his principals, by being a true leader and someone to look up to. He has always been strong in his opinions but fair and willing to listen to suggestions or a different point of view. I will never fault someone for attempting to improve their position or career aspirations. If DC Putney does leave CMPD it will truly be CMPD’s loss.

Our loss but Winston's gain. Kind of hoping that he might be one of a few to get the nod for an inside promo to Chief here.

What is the purpose of Winston Salem hosting a Meet your Finalist? The City Council said the "community" would have a chance to voice our opinion ..Don't waste the other finalists time Winston Salem City Council!!

He would be the Only One qualified to get an inside promo here.

Seriously, the other D.C.'s are a JOKE. There is not one that remotely has the leadership skills, or any skills for that matter that would qualify them to be chief.

Think about it:
Eddie Levins: hot head, Bully..and just plain mean. Much like Medlock....if he doesn't "like" you, you are gone.
Katrina Graue: Much like Levins, but is more subtle in her "bullying".Howdy thinks she can use her feminine wiles to get what she wants. Really a disgrace to women in the workplace.
Gallant: Scared of his own shadow. Non starter.
Foster: Sold her soul to make DC. Really poor judgment....intolerant of others lifestlyles and beliefs. decidedly NOT a leader.

So you really think any of these would make even a passable chief?

Oh, and Sheri will be the next DC....that will round out the losers nicely.

Just sad, really.

There are three finalists and the community meetings still to go, so no decisions yet, but Chief Putney would be the smart choice for W-S. Integrity, intelligence, competence, belief in developing people... the total package for a CoP.

Too bad we will be left with what is at the bottom of the barrel if he leaves. I would only hope that someone with Putneys qualities is promoted to D/C but I'm not going to hold my breath......

The smart choice is for the WSPD to hire their own! We want Putney to remain in Charlotte

Anonymous said...

Putney, please stay! We need you here!

GOOD!! I'm glad he's leaving!

for him.. not us. :(

There is no way he could ever advance here in Charlotte as it is. If he moves and gets Chief experience elsewhere he would have a much better chance of returning some day and being top cop than he would of staying and trying to promote from within. Either way, Best wishes Kerr.

Putney is an arrogant ass. His decisions don't have reason. He is a pompous "strong black man". Good riddance, if only we are so lucky.

One should not confuse confidence and competence with arrogance. Sounds like sour grapes.

Agree 100%

Sounds like you are the one with the arrogance and maybe an "angry white man".

Putney is fair, even handed, respectful and does not tolerate slackers. You are probably one of those!
