Medic Nearly Kills A Family of Four In South Charlotte

Medic responding to a call, nearly caused what would have been a fatal accident early Sunday evening.

It all happened too fast to note the unit number, but the truck was east bound on Pineville Matthews Road attempting to turn left on to Carmel Road at approximately 5:48 p.m. on Sunday.

I saw the unit's lights approaching the Carmel Commons Shopping Center from the west, working through traffic just inside Johnston Road.

Then the lights disappeared, only to have the truck enter the intersection with siren only seconds later, nearly T-boning a woman in a silver mini van.

Since it was nearly 6 p.m. with still enough daylight to see, the crew apparently didn't notice their lights and strobes were off.

The truck swerved hard to the left then right to miss the mini van, unloading their air horn on the clearly startled van driver, before roaring away north bound on Carmel.

Not sure if it was operator error or system failure, but this was the second time in a month, I've witnessed an emergency vehicle in Charlotte responding to a call with siren only.

Several months ago I watched Engine 24 roll out of their station on Pineville Matthews Road without their lights. While most the traffic had stopped one west bound SUV had to lock up the binders at the last second.

If this keeps up someone is going to get killed.

Anyone else have a similar experience?

I haven't seen Medic running without flashing lights and strobes, but I can tell you most people don't hear the siren.

Some of the engine companies need to slow the hell down. I see Engine 16 bounding through intersections a lot.

Nice non story over something that did not actually happen. Obviously a SLOW news day.

I see CMPD cruisers rolling the lights and no siren all the time just to pop a traffic light.

I won't judge, and the lights are pretty noticeable.

But without the lights, there is no way you would know that MEDIC was coming through the intersection.

Of course you do moron, just to avoid a stop light or sign? Please tell me your not stupid enough to actually think that is why they would go through an intersection. I'm always amazed at the level of stupidity I see here from time to time, quite amusing.

Medic crews are idiots, the least trained of all the city-county assets. Always been that way.

Hey 9:24 who pissed on your cornflakes?

Of course they do moron, they roll through red lights all the time, lights on and blow through the red light then lights off, why the Hot Sign is on at the donut shop.

And at 12:02 the trolls come up. Good to see you, wouldn't be a true story without you.
