"Racist Bigot" screams the left, as the nation's main stream media pivots from Trump to Republican Gubernatorial Candidate Ron DeSantis.
Yet again, left-wing media outlets are using an out-of-context quote to claim a Republican is using "racist dog whistles".
DeSantis made the statement: “The last thing we need to do is to 'monkey this up' by trying to embrace a socialist agenda with huge tax increases and bankrupting the state,” during a live interview on FOX News.
Within minutes the left had turned DeSantis' words around to: "A Donald Trump-backed Republican candidate has sparked controversy after urging Florida not to "monkey this up" by electing his African-American opponent as governor of Florida."
Welcome once again, to the perpetually offended world of the African Americans.
CNN quickly seized on the moment rushing to interview Andrew Gillum who gave this response:
"I actually believe that Florida and its rich diversity are going to be looking for a governor who's going to bring us together, not divide us. Not misogynist, not racist, not bigots, they're going to be looking for a governor who is going to appeal to our higher aspirations as a state. DeSantis can do the bidding of big business and big lobbyists and Donald Trump and his divisive rhetoric."
“That wasn’t just a dog whistle, that was a bullhorn,” said Gillum’s campaign manager.
Then Florida Democratic Party chairwoman Terrie Rizzo took to Twitter to attack DeSantis:
"It's disgusting that Ron DeSantis is launching his general election campaign with racist dog whistles," she wrote.
However, the Republican's spokesman, Stephen Lawson, defended the remark, saying Mr DeSantis was referring to his opponent's political positions and not his race. "Ron DeSantis was obviously talking about Florida not making the wrong decision to embrace," Mr. Lawson said in a statement. "To characterize it as anything else is absurd."
Cedar's Take:
Interesting to note that Gillum didn't take the high road and shoot down the monkey this up comment during the CNN interview.
Apparently un-able to defend his socialist agenda Gillum did everything but call DeSantis a racist.
And Gillum didn't stop there just hours later he told ABC News he would not "get down in the gutter" with Florida gubernatorial rival Ron DeSantis.
The left leaning The Dictionary.com gives the definition of the phrase "Dog Whistle" as: “A political strategy, statement, slogan, etc., that conveys a controversial, secondary message understood only by those who support the message.”
DeSantis best not use the phrase Tar-Baby, at least until next week.
