Cedar Posts notes the passing of retired CMPD Sergeant Robert "Ben" Davis.
Sergeant Davis was only 55 when he passed away last week on July 4th at Duke University Hospital in Durham.
The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m., Monday, July 9, at Concord First Assembly. Pastor Tom Whidden and Father Alex Viola will officiate.
Police graveside honors will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Concord, conducted by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., this evening, Sunday, July 8, at Lady's Funeral Home.
Sergaent Davis was born on May 24, 1957 in Mecklenburg County. He was the son of Alfred Allen Davis and Rose Kluttz Davis, both of Huntersville. He graduated from North Mecklenburg High School, class of 1975. He attended CPCC and graduated from UNC-Charlotte with a degree in criminal justice.
He was a dedicated public servant to the citizens of Mecklenburg County. After serving for over 30 years, Mr. Davis retired as a Sergeant of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. He was a long-time member of Concord First Assembly. Ben was a devoted husband and father, who loved to spend time with his family. He enjoyed camping, hiking and walking their five dogs. He also loved learning about history and reading.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Jean Godwin Davis; daughters, Sarah Davis Franklin and husband, Greg, of Greenville and Melissa Ann Davis, of Kannapolis; sister, Janet Dove and husband, Robert, of Huntersville; brother, Michael Allen Davis and wife, Debra, of Huntersville; nieces, Jennifer Lovelace, Kelly Dove and Holly Sullivan and nephews, Gregory Davis, Nathan Dove and Joshua Sullivan.
