CMPD Officer Reggie Love Busted

From WCNC:

A Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officer is now on administrative assignment following an arrest for drunk driving.

Friday morning around 3:30 a.m. the Guilford County Sheriff's Office pulled over a vehicle for driving erratically. Authorities say the driver, CMPD officer Reginald Love, was arrested for DWI and civil revocation of drivers license.

CMPD says Love has been placed on administrative assignment pending the outcome of the investigation.

A mug shot was not available, authorities say, as Love's charges are misdemeanors.

Cedar's Take: Nothing says career ender like a DWI arrest at least you would think. The mantra of every CMPD Officer should always be "I NEVER Drink and Drive".  CP has and continues to push for a zero tolerance DWI/DUI law, where no level of intoxication is permitted. Throughout Europe and Australia BAL is substantially less than North Carolina's .08% limit.

The fact is that numerous CMPD officers have been arrested for DWI AND remain on the job today! Of course a female whose sexual orientation is celebrated and "diverse" has a MUCH better chance then that of a white male who is also straight! After all white male officers lives no longer matter and it is blatantly apparent that they are far more expendable. The mighty CMPD Internal affairs division has made this fact appallingly real. Sexual orientation and race dominates the market for officers that have been terminated and those who were given a slap on the wrist. The ethos and mission statement for CMPD has always been we "value" or employees! (As long as they are black or home sexual since we are afraid of being sued). I would have more respect for the command staff if they just added that small print since they have no balls. I pray that the jury will see what a disservice little Rodney did to his officer based on race and gender. When will being white no longer be taboo in today's society. White lives matter, well at least they once did.

Hey Kerr Putney, what a crock to say that there's no mugshot available because it's a misdemeanor.

Any moron can take a quick view of arrest mugshots on the Sheriff's website full of faces of people charged with misdemeanors and determine that's a big lie. Liar. Liar. Liar. Or someone lying in your name--because YOU are Chief.

His mugshot is not posted because he was given special privileges as a police officer for whom other officers of the law found probable cause to arrest him on DWI charges.

This is more cover up of crimes and probable cause to charge crimes against police officers.

You need to leave, too.

If we could find a competent City Manager, maybe he or she could find an honest and competent police chief.

He was arrested in Guilford County you idiot. Mugshots are not available on Guilford County Sheriff website. Go back to sleep...............

I know he was arrested in Guilford County.
But mugshots are part of the arrest record and are public, which point you would understand by looking at the Mecklenburg County mugshots which is full of photos of people charged with misdemeaners.

CMPD could and should release the information since they have access and this officer works here. It is public information and the public information officer that works for Kerr Putney should release it.

I don't know why Guilford Co. has a policy of not posting for certain crimes, but they must release upon request--like to the Chief of Police of CMPD who employs this guy.

I hope that explains with enough detail for someone of your high intelligence to understand a point made by an idiot. Have a nice day officer.

You spelled misdemeanor wrong...have a nice day!

Yes, voice typing and small touch screens often cause typos that aren't corrected in a comment section of a blog where extra care isn't taken to be sure there are no errors.

I really do apologize to you for that offense to your extremely high intelligence.
And your very small other parts. Good thing some idiot gave you a gun and a badge so you can try to overcome your feelings of inadequacy.

It seems like you are wasting your talents talking about typos instead of covering up crimes by CMPD officers.

This isn't Potentate Putney's fault for there being no mugshot posted. If anyone, the press, the public, little Johnny from the corner....wants the photo just go to GUILFORD County (it's right up the road and you can mapquest it) courthouse and get the photo. The fact the media here didn't post it shows to the laziness of the reporting in this wanna be "city." And I'm not a big proponent of drunk driving, but you can blow a .08 and not be intoxicated. And MADD wants it lowered to .05?? Give me a break. You could have 2 wines at dinner and hit that mark and not even be close to impaired. Maybe there should just be a better method for field sobriety testing? You know, juggling, pogo stick, unicycle, pushups, sit ups, 1 mile run??

10:25 and 3:50 p.m. have hit the nail on the head.

It is positively the result of ignorant Command Staff and further testimony to IA incompetence.

Nice folks, IA. But bottom line is they are the Po-Po charged with functions that probably belong down that hall in HR. Of course, HR is on such a tight leash they aren't given the courtesy of being involved much when it comes to performance discipline and providing input to ensure fair and unbiased "internal investigations". Although, it all stems back up the Chain to the top. Incompetence breeds incompetence. Ignorance loves ignorance. How else do egos survive and thrive.

Which reminds me. I've never been quite sure why they ever renamed HR in the first place; those kind folks are still treated as if they are the paper-pushing "Personnel" Bureau from 1987. When timecards were paper and file forms were filled out on the Brother typewriter. I'm sure there's still one of those laying around somewhere.

Unfortunately, City HR is in no better position to speak up against the Police Chief; there is no support from City Executive Leadership to bridge that gap. CMPD is a machine that will run over anyone who gets in the way: taxpayers, City HR, City Manager included. No no, Let's not leave discipline and unbiased decisions to the HR professionals (who's life work is all of the above and then some). Instead, let's leave it up to badged, er, Sworn Personnel who's background is all cops & robbers, good cop/bad cop tactics. Why would the Status Quo need improvement, when it's clearly been working. Winning!

p.s. What ever was wrong with Sworn & Civilian, anyway? Why is everything now the haves and have-nots? (Sworn and Non-Sworn)

I am not on either side of this, but more than likely there is no mugshot that exists. DWI is not am offense that requires a mugshot or fingerprints. Most counties do not process you through the jail for DWI, you do Intox and go before a Magistrate at the public window.

Meck County is different, we actually process you in. But thats PROBABLY the reason for no mugshot.

Being a white straight cop for this department sucks! Let's go get some more laterals and just promote them along with the rookies! being on patrol for over 15 years means nothing! Seniority? Uh no. Go back to work cracker

And how is it possible that nobody in the so-called local press asked about this arrest when they had the chief of police giving a press conference about an on duty arrest for drunk driving that occurred right after?
Sure he may have been off duty, but a police officer driving drunk should be cause for concern for every person and especially the chief of police. What is wrong with Charlotte media? And what's wrong with Kerr Putney that he didn't offer it up? If there had not been an accident with the one he talked about, would he be hiding that arrest as well?

He's cleaning house and making examples of officers getting popped for DWIs. Good changes are coming to CMPD now that Putney's in command. He's got 7 years of garbage to sift through, so it's going to take a little time.

Anonymous said...

Nope. Just the one officer who wrecked the car and made for "good" t.v. so he couldn't deny it happened. And that's the only one these "journalists" asked about.

It's a crock.

If he stepped up and offered the other DWI and who knows how many others, and also people who commit domestic violence, lie on police reports, lie on time cards, and sleep (literally or figuratively) on the job, then I'd believe you. Even if he started only with the DWI's, I would tend to give him more time. But Putney's not being honest. And he COULD HAVE spoken up during the past 7 years. And he SHOULD HAVE.

HMMMMMM...I don't see any posts about one of your beloved officers who did what Love did, BUT on duty, probably left the man cave of one of you regular CP posters before checking "41" huh?

Chief Putney is doing an excellent job, if any of you do not like it, QUIT and/or MOVE! BTW, the South LOST...get OVER IT! #RebelFlagCarryingCryBabies

It is crucial to consider a DUI charge seriously. DUI defense is a specialized area of criminal defense and is quite complex. Having an experienced DUI defense lawyers on your side could make a huge difference in the case outcome. My brother works with a Los Angeles DUI lawyer and have told me that all these things can impact outcome of case to a great extent.
