Has CMPD Gone To The Dogs?

K-9s and Cops have been a thing since the 1920's and there is a somewhat creditable story that the Charlotte Police Department had the first K-9 Officer in the state.

According to Charlotte Fire Department history there has been a dog at least one station in Charlotte since 1910.

Word is that CMPD currently has 7 K-9 Officers, Mecklenburg County Sheriff has another 3. Their roles range from tracking, drug detection and explosives work. The airport has a "comfort dog" and one explosives/drug dog.

And then there's Nick. At least we think that is his name.

Officer Nick
Nick is, well just a dog, he wanders the hallways of Central Division looking for attention. You see Nick is a therapy dog school drop out.

Before we venture down this hall, you should know we at Cedar Posts love dogs. All kinds of dogs, big small stray rescues and even champion blue ribbon pedigree dogs.

Apparently "Nick" is been added to the city payroll as a "homeless therapy dog" and is somewhat loosely assigned to CMPD Officer Russ Falkenberry. So Nick roams the Central office looking for hand outs and trying hard to stay out of trouble. Apparently Central Division spent part of CMPD's budget on a therapy dog that didn't make the grade.

Nick's Office
Nick even has his own office, well at least a bed where a desk once stood.

Many departments use therapy dogs to help during the investigative process, they are also used to help comfort kids in stressful situations. But Nick for whatever reason didn't measure up. With his dog training school fail Nick has been repurposed to become a "help the homeless" dog.

What a cute shed monster. As someone who loves dogs but also knows the torture of dog dander intolerance Nick looks like he'd drive the office staff crazy. Even if you're not allergic to dogs the fur the white fur is not compatible with blue uniforms.

But we love Nick anyways. We are pretty sure the homeless don't care if he sheds or isn't hypo allergic, but what do you think?

Have you encountered Nick?

Can the citizen's review board request to have an officer resign? I know they don't have the power to charge an officer, but can they make an officer quit? If not, then what is the point of the fucking board in the first place?

I don't think they can initiate a dismissal action only the chief has that authority.

Cedar you have your facts wrong about how many K9s the CMPD has. And you think the 6th busiest airport in the World has only one bomb dog? Lol.

Could you imagine if a Caucasian man shot that crazy black guy? He would be in jail like that central officer. I bet he didn't a unsecured bond like most of these POS killers.

Do any snitches have any feedback on the open questions on here? I'm interested to hear what is happening.

Pretty sure “drug detection” is a skill of the past for our K9’s thanks to the DA’s office’s inability to successfully argue probable cause to the courts anymore.

Nick isn't the dog training failure. He's the replacement for the other one that failed.

Rusty needed an excuse to keep his unmarked take home car out of county. A "city" dog was furfect reason.

That dog is the most trustworthy thing in that building.

I’ll bet “Nick” gets treated better than officers. Anyone know where “Nick” is on the Sergeants list? No doubt he can do a better job, dogs are loyal!

I haven't stopped sneezing since this thing showed up. I like dogs and understand that service dogs have a place, but this dog isn't required to be in the Central office because of some federal law, they just put him a mat down and let him roam around. I'm thinking about a lawsuit for turning the whole office into a dog kennel. No other K9 stays in a division office. They all have vehicle-mounted kennels and outdoor kennels at home. Thank God I don't have to spend all day in the office. I feel bad for the detectives.

6:45- Most be a brain washed Chain of Command person. I do not use the word "Officer" for them. Anyone who doesn't like dogs are not to be trusted."Loyal?"

AWWWWWW! Central Division has an emotional support dog to get them through the tough days in uptown. Dealing with hott ass, bums, and traffic accidents can really bring down the central boys. Just leave the real police work to Westover and Steelecreek. We have real issues to deal with.

I love dogs, but keep them out of the office for real. Keep kids out of the office, too.

Central's homicide rate up 900% They have some things to deal with. But I hear all the ideas being put forth by.command are kindaband aide pure numbers (dots on dots)over results stuff.

Oh wait. Thats the whole department.
