Earlier this week the Los Angles Times promoted a story about how that ubiquitous ice cream truck song "Turkey in the Straw" is actually a racist taunt.
Everything is RACIST! The world has gone crazy. But wait a minute we've already had this discussion. Back in 2014 NPR had a nutty about "Turkey in the Straw" which created an uproar and within a few weeks summer came and the ice cream trucks rolled on.
We've become a culture of idiots who believe anything and everything they see on twitter.
The sad reality is the "Main Stream Media" has an agenda that includes sensationalize anything and everything about race. But in the middle of the endless COVID-19 pandemic have you seen any ice cream trucks rolling? CP hasn't and if memory serves me, the few in South Charlotte play the "Jack in the Box" tune and not Turkey in the Straw.
Assume that nobody remembers that last time BLM tried to Hi-Jack a song with claims of "THAT'S RACIST" but back in 2014 John McWhorter wrote this for The New Republic:
The writer, Theodore R. Johnson, has unearthed “Ni (double gggrr) er Love a Watermelon, Ha! Ha! Ha!,” a most unfortunate version of the song from 1916, and he also points to a nationally famous version that was practically the theme song of the minstrel show for much of the nineteenth century. Depicting a dancing black man character, the song was called—get ready—"Zip Coon."
As interesting as it may be that today's most popular ice crime truck jingle started out as racist abuse set to music, the facts don’t really support it.
"The first and natural inclination, of course, is to assume that the ice cream truck song is simply paying homage to 'Turkey in the Straw,'" yet Johnson argues, "but the melody reached the nation only after it was appropriated by traveling blackface minstrel shows. There is simply no divorcing the song from the dozens of decades it was almost exclusively used for coming up with new ways to ridicule, and profit from, black people."
But that divorce is indeed possible. Johnson makes it sound like the “Turkey in the Straw” version vanished in the wake of the racist ones, but it always existed alongside and has outlived them. All evidence points to "Turkey in the Straw" being what the ice cream companies intended. In pop culture of the early twentieth century, that tune is eternally associated with either its inoffensive, nonsensical lyrics or, when performed instrumentally, with farm animals and rural settings. For example, the man who scored Looney Tunes, Carl Stalling, used “Turkey in the Straw” constantly in scenes on farms and especially with chickens and the like. To grow up watching these cartoons was to have the tune hammered into one’s head, especially by Foghorn (“I say, that’s a joke, son!”) Leghorn.
So, what evidence supports the idea that in the 1920s, when these ice cream trucks became established, publicity executives were actually thinking of anti-“darky” doggerel when deciding what song the trucks would play?
Johnson's unearthing of the “Ni(double gggrr) er Love a Watermelon” song is invaluable as history, but the likelihood that this is what the trucks were playing is negligible. The tune has been set to innumerable verses of various kinds, and this “Watermelon” rendition was, in the grand scheme of things, one of the vast majority of pop songs that comes and goes in a flash. That’s why it’s a rare archival find and historical footnote today.
Johnson's wiser implication is that the “Zip Coon” version was what the trucks were playing. But with “Turkey in the Straw” as a universally beloved lyric at the time, that’s a tough case to make, and he does so with only a single statement. He notes, almost in passing, "19th century ice cream parlors played the popular minstrel songs of the day." But is that really true? Johnson gives no evidence, and it sounds like a stretch. One source of misinterpretation may be what was meant 100 years ago by “minstrel song.”
We are justifiably appalled at the focus of these shows on caricatures of black people as near-animals, but what makes it worse is that until about 1900, minstrel shows were essentially general entertainment. Audiences got a dose of comedy, dance, song, and much else: the shows occupied roughly the place that TV variety shows did from the fifties through the seventies, but with the blackface business as a foundational, horrific element of it all. It was as if "The Carol Burnett Show" had been performed with everybody corked up.
But what this means is that if there is a reference somewhere to ice cream parlors playing “minstrel songs,” this could easily refer to what a nineteenth-century person would have processed as what we call “pop.” Hardly everything sung in a minstrel show was about “coons” and “prancing”—one also heard sentimental ballads, peppy little marches, and other kinds of songs. There was no radio or TV, and recordings were short, lousy, and expensive. Live performance was the only way audiences of the time could hear music. They naturally wanted more from a show than just jibes about “Negroes.”
Now some might still find the idea compelling that ice cream parlors specialized in racist music—and remember, the idea has to be that 'Negro' caricature was associated especially closely with ice cream, rather than having a beer or going on a boat ride. But we have to really imagine what that would mean. Was it really a custom for ice cream parlors to have someone sitting at the piano singing in black dialect about “darkies” eating watermelon and having razor fights? Let’s allow it could have been the custom at one of them somewhere—or just perhaps it was a rather obsessive quirk in some small town. But across this vast nation as a whole, was it ordinary to receive your banana split while being regaled with an endless succession of songs about coons and the ol’ plantation? And why in ice cream parlors, but not shoe stores or barbershops?
The fact that the “Turkey in the Straw” melody was fitted out with so many racist lyrics is a sad and valuable historical lesson indeed. However, the idea that today’s ice cream trucks are playing “Zip Coon”—even as unwitting historical holdover—is too fragile to launch any anti-ice-cream boycotts as we head into the summer months. After all, that would set us up for all kinds of other protests. Look up the history of good old “Eeny, meeny, miny, moe,” for example. Today we chant about catching a “tiger.” But “tiger” is a euphemism for what started as...

Who screwed up the warrant on the innocent working man that got locked up in York County for something that occurred in University?
https://www.google.com/amp/s/abcnews4.com/amp/news/local/case-of-mistaken-identity-from-south-carolina-deputies-leaves-man-in-jail-for-five-days
Whats up Cedar? Have you noticed the decline of Po Po blogging on here? Cecil scared them off.
Did Cecil really get a BJ while on duty?
Who is next in the IA crosshairs? I’ve heard they have a lot of irons in the fire and after RNC it’s hammer time for officers and Sgts.
Just know if your a Caucasian straight male you are expendable. And if you have 20+ years you’re really expendable...: Just ask Sammy. You think Harris Teeter loss prevention was just “randomly” watching him?? He pissed someone off and IA had him in the crosshairs. So if your double dipping, padding peoplesoft etc you are as good as gone. My advice, start looking for your back up plan now. Tomorrow is promised to no one in this job.
1103am,
Bro the RNC has been gone. Quit stirring the pot. I just talked to a cop today and he says this summer is the worst summer ever. 4 officers on a shift, all rookies and burnt out vets. Violent crime through the roof. Everyone is quitting. They just lost 4 in his division this month.
Sammy had cocaine charges on him so IA used the shoplifting to cover that little nugget up.
Sammy was slinging or using? I hadn’t heard that.
I heard Sammy was banging broads on duty and got 2 CMPD employees pregnant
what happened to Yarovitz' charges? Cocaine alleged and 41 separate videoed events of shoplifting? What else? And seems they dropped charges because "he's suffered enough?"
What utter bullshit.
How many other criminals are wearing a badge?
The GOOD cops suffer with guys like that still on the job.
I heard all the charges were dropped, he’s working 1st shift in B-1. Also he’s 4th on the upcoming Sgt list.
i heard there was some a Shark in Property Control that had a dudes foot inside it and the foot had a Kilo of coke in it, and one time at Band Camp. Stupid motherfuckers
I luv it when people come on here and think that this shit is made up. If you actually worked here then you would know Sammy had IA watching him for cocaine possession and they let him get hooked for shoplifting to protect the department.
Dont come on here talking shit about the truth. Get off CedarPosts if you want to go live in fantasy land.
My IA source told me that Sammy was a Captain in the colombian cartel for 10 years and that’s why CMPD was watching him.
You're a damn liar. You mean to tell me if IA had something that juicy as cocaine possession that they'd miss the opportunity to virtue signal and spike the proverbial football on TV with the media asking questions... No way. It was probably some petty BS that Sammy was doing, (time sheet stuff, or maybe he didn't kiss the right amount of ass.. whatever). If they had him on Schedule II possession Putney and them would've announced it from the roof of the LEC. Remember how they did Kerrick?
Very true. They would have dragged him through the streets of Charlotte. I’m a rookie and I know if you don’t kiss the right ass you aren’t going to get far.
Also keep in mind Sammy was 19+ years on so you know the city can get the same labor from rookies they pay half of what he was making and they won’t have to pay his supplement when he retires.. anything they can find, you’re gone! The only reason Cecil is still around is he’s made himself useful in getting rid of the high dollar salaries. They’re willing to look the other way should be want to “relieve some stress” whilst on duty
Are sgts getting extra points for how many write ups they can do for forgetting to put a mask on
Go pull up CMPD Officers arrested. Look up the past 10 years and tell me what the trend is? You want facts dumbass look up the arrest pictures.
10:41 Sammy had to ride with me when he was rookie for a couple of days. that sucked. You were probably in K5 then. Oh yeah your still in K5
Yeah Sammy didn't have that hooked on coke look anyway. And look what they did to that female officer from Metro over some non prescription/prescription BS. The one who was bangin Rudd and gave him the clap, can't remember her name?
Jennifer something, prob where got that STD.
They keep this up they’ll have no one left to patrol. Break out the white shirts... LT and above are gonna start answering calls.
7:20 actually I’m 35 years old. Why did it suck when he rode with you. I’m sure it was no picnic for him either. You sound disgruntle
8:28 Nah 25 years as a patrol officer in A3/Freedom does wonders for a persons mindset
8:30, you still didn’t say why it sucked. He was always a cool funny dude when I spoke to him.
Who’s the IA sgt that works OD at the Walmart on Wilkinson and never answers the radio when shit is going down there?
8;36 I love Sammy but he does not pay attention. you will never make it if dont pay attention, common sense. Some people you can teach them how do something twice and they get it. Some 50 times the same thing and they never do. I feel bad for him and I would never see him using cocaine.
8:36 if you really believe this Cocaine BS then you never knew him. Yes he was always downtown having fun, but I’m betting on this Coke to be just rumors. I also heard he’s doing pretty well for himself now.
Yall can leave Metro out of this one...for once. The reason IA went after Jennifer is because the DEA had charges on her and they had to take action against her or DEA would. Yall are defending a guy that was stealing steaks. I'm sure he was doing other stuff. He just got caught stealing the steaks so you think thats all it is.
9:12. My classmate was one of the Det on his case. Hate to hurt your feelings, but it was only steaks and other food items, not the crime of the century. Metro is still a S hole, my Sgt tried getting a few of us to transfer there. Hell to the NO.
I am retired now but I did most of my career in Metro.
It is a veritable paradise compared with dealing with the snobbish and feckless suburbanites of south Charlotte.
I worked in Metro for 10 years. It’s a real S hole.
First choice is Metro all the way. Tons to do and lots of action.
Last choice is Airport. Don’t feel like being in a human fish bowl walking around like a mall cop
For all you Sammy haters, we are still friends and he hasn’t changed one bit. Still the same crazy SOB he always was. And making more $$$$
Ok. So ^^^ is probably Sammy trying to front so he don’t look like a tool. Go ahead and tell us what your doing now to make more $$$$ and if you could make more $$$ why didn’t you do that before you were stealing steaks giving us all a bad name. Last I heard you was selling cars in SC.
Okay, but he was still stealing--over and over and over again and in uniform (wouldn't have been okay out of uniform, either) and WAS NOT PROSECUTED despite being on video. Special treatment for a guy who seems really dumb and was allowed to have a gun on behalf of the City.
2:55. I’m just sticking up for my friend. You probably never even met him. I’m sure he knows he messed up. Life goes on.
510,
I am a different guy than 255.
THE MAN WAS STEALING STEAKS IN UNIFORM. THAT WAS THE FIRST TIME HE GOT CAUGHT DOING CRIMES. HE EMBARRASSED THE HELL OUT OF CMPD. I REMEMBER PUTNEYS FACE WHEN HE WAS TALKING ON CAMERA ABOUT IT. NICE, FUN GUY.....SURE.
HE THOUGHT HE WAS ABOVE THE LAW AND SLICK. THERE IS NO WAY HE IS DOING "BETTER" WITH HIS NAME ALL OVER GOOGLE FOR THAT STORY. NO WAY IN HELL.
I appreciate you sticking up for an old buddy, though. Not enough of you to go around this place.
5:10. Yeah bro. My hats off to you too. Too many Judas’s in this place. Even though your boy stepped on his dick you still stand by him. That is a true friend. I’d say 75% or more of officers in this place would turn tail and run, some of even gloat when someone hits rock bottom. Sad group of losers who do that shit. Don’t try and deny it cause more than half the IA complaints are from within.
^^^^. True dat. Don’t gotta worry about getting hit by a suspect, I worry more about getting hit from my co-workers
How hard is it just to do your fucking jobs? Dont worried about your coworkers talking shit about you if you do you fucking job and help the team. Most the people on here getting dawged out are the worthless cops that have been holding CMPD back for over a decade.
We are not that bad of team, but CedarPosts only highlights the shit that we are stuck with.
Moral is the worse I’ve ever seen. So many people are retiring early. This place backs up civilians before us. Officers that got out in the last few years are the lucky ones.
9:29. I think what 5:59 was talking about was the backstabbers in this place do when there are minor mistakes that get made, instead of helping a younger officer they run and tattle on them like a 3td grader. Like somehow that’s gonna give them brownie points with supervisors and make themselves look good. Yeah, if someone is stealing steaks from HT that should be told. It’s easy to say “oh just do your job” until your the one who makes the mistake and someone anonymously rats you out. You’ll wish your “team” had your back then instead of stabbing you in the back
3 of us are turning in our resignation letter at the end of the month for normal civilian jobs. Please don’t sit here and tell me how amazing CMPD is. Bye bye. Who cares what people say.
Don’t worry, Chief Jennings new core four will save us all!
We have a better chance of surviving a boat trip on the Titanic then Jennings doing anything for us.
I house payment, I'll do whatever to pay it. Its just a job so no proactive shit. Keep the guns on the streets. You have to get your hands dirty to keep the people safe from the wolf. But if the Sheep Herder doesn't have your back, whats the point? Cant stick it my ass if I'm sitting on it. Oh, I'll do my job, like taking reports.
The new CMPD mission statement...
"I have a house payment. I'll do whatever to pay it"
Watch CFD in December. Many are getting ready to un-ass the place. Completely mismanaged by a Chief who has no idea what he’s doing, riding Jones’s coattails. The deputies have ZERO business in their position. It’s more screwed up now than it ever was under Hannan.
So I have a funny story about CFD.
I went to their headquarters at Dalton Avenue for a business meeting about emergency response tactics. As soon as I walked in the door in a suit, they were asking me if I wanted to apply there.
I said no. That's really desperate if you ask every man that walks in the building if they want to be a firefighter.
You should see who they’re hiring. It’s not based on ability, education, or experience. They are DESPERATELY trying to get anyone to apply. Over the next three years you will see a wave (50-100) of people heading for the door. People used to stay close to 30+ years. Now, many are leaving just as soon as they can or early. They passed over MANY way more much more qualified people when they picked the current Deputy Chiefs. They are just a bunch of kool-aid drinking sheep. It was obvious the current chief knew NOTHING about them or their past when he picked them. There were others (Wilson, Summers, Nantz, Rodgers, etc) the current chief should have picked that could sh!t these current 3 deputy chiefs a brain.
I don’t know whose in worse shape, us or CFD..
CMPD is a dumpster fire. Officers don’t care anymore
^^ damn right we don’t care. Citizens cussing at us, filming everything we do, distrusting us at every turn. Let the fine citizens of Metro and Freedom see what defunding the police looks like. Don’t worry about 50 in a 35, pfft matter of fact go on and sling dope out in the open. Enjoy yourself, I don’t live here and don’t care. I’ll just wave as I drive by. When that crack smoking baby daddy starts beating on you just call the social worker. When someone is breaking into your house, sure we’re coming priority 1, but after I finish the sandwich I’m eating.. I mean I want to make sure I get there safely. Remember when George Zimmerman shot Trayvon Martin, what did the media and half the country say, “Civilians shouldn’t be vigilantes and take the law into their own hands”. Remember that?? If there is no police your gonna have hundreds on these neighborhood watch vigilantes walking around pretending to be the police and you’ll have thousands of “Trayvon” victims. Just remember that. I’m months away from the pension so suck it Charlotte.
let the Burn Loot Murder crowd tear it up. charlotte is getting what it voted for.
8:33pm. You make an excellent point. I am a registered democrat and while I didn't vote for Trump in 2016 I will be this election. I remember the Trayvon Martin thing and I thought the same thing. Here is another FL crazy, with a gun, trying to be the police. I do believe if Biden gets in and our departments get defunded there will be a lot of these "George Zimmerman" types trolling the streets. Leave the law enforcement to the professionals. I know there are some racists cops but I do believe the vast majority are good and at least they've been psychologically screened. We don't want to see what the USA will look like with neighborhood watch goons patrolling our streets and making decisions on which black folks are suspicious and which are not. I've got 2 teenage black boys and I worry about them everyday but honestly I'd rather they had an interaction with a police officer and not a George Zimmerman.
Can someone fill an old veteran in on some of stories that were on here....
1. What happened to the chick that shot the FBI agent in North?
2. Did anything happen to the dets that charged the innocent guy with murder?
3. How is Brad Koch recovering?
I’m curious. Gerald Smith describes a white woman in an IA interview as a South Charlotte type. What would happen in an interview with Tamilla Gibbs if a white officer referred to a black person they had written a citation to with no probable cause as a “West Charlotte type”?
What you think gon happen, nigga?

Anyway, has anyone eaten any of these god awful sandwiches yet uptown? Surprise surprise nothings changed.
lotta west charlotte types killin each other
Lotta IA types getting sucked off on duty.. too soon?
Sorry Cecil
@8.33pm, good onya mate.
@10:00am
Gibbs is a West Charlotte type so she would make sure to add some racial charges to whatever case she’s fucking up. But don’t worry, play auntie Perasall will make sure she continues to get promoted.
11:08. I’m retired. What’s the backstory ??
1108, shout out to the phrase "play auntie". I liked that.
To all you CedarPost haters, I have more respect for Sgt Gibbs than half of the CMPD sgts. She grew up in West Charlotte, so that takes guts. I'd take big gurl in a fight any day before I take the likes of Sgt Suddreth or Lt. Veith. Could you imagine Chase or Luc even fighting a grown adult? It would be like Capt. Koch fighting a teenager. We all saw what happened when a fake cop tries to be a cop. Sgt Gibbs can throw down and I've seen it. Ya heard me?
Dun check yourself before you ever post on this site.
i have no doubt a west charlotte type knows how to throw fisticuffs. dun chek yosef fo yo wrek yo sef. sheeeet
The only thing Gibbs knows how to throw down is fast food.
^^^ speaking of food, anyone work that “peaceful protest” last night while the yuppies were dining in south end? Remember boys and girls, “white silence is violence”
and west side type violence is justified because:
systemic racism
economic disadvantage
Trump
unfair criminal justice policy
And they really think a majority of south charlotte type america is going to vote for a platform that backs up this asinine train of thought? i mean come on.
I heard IA was at the warehouse the other night....probable making sure “peaceful protestors” were treated with tenderness and fairness during their arrest for assaulting officers.
But seriously why would the snakes slither out of the Ivory Tower for something other than a food related activity??
@1108....play auntie...lol!!!!!
If these morons hand me one more turkey sandwich.....
125 is the record!! 81 so far. We need 45, lets go Charlotte!!!!!
ha, I was thinking about the number yesterday. No way in hell we get 45 before new years. The bars and clubs are empty, so no alcohol related shootings downtown. We gotta wait for those domestic disturbances to escalate into a killin.
Peoples up in homicide unit are probably really hating their career choice rights about now.
Did anyone see the Wisconsin shooting?
Why would you put 8 rounds into the back of a man that didn't even have a fucking gun on him? You can see he doesn't have a gun. His kids were in the damn car watching that shooting, too.
I'm not black, but that is so fucking stupid of that cop. They had their guns out already, and didn't even try to tackle him or taser him.
Every month its something!
What if he said he was going to get a gun out of the car? Remember the old video of the trooper killed by the Vietnam Veteran? Shut up and wait for the facts to come out.
don’t be a west charlotte type 10:41. wait for the facts of the case to come out first then by all means lose your shit after that if it doesn’t fit your world view. unless u were there or have an inside scoop from someone that was there u r making assumptions.
personally i think he was reaching back into the car to get his bible so he could school those pigs on wwjd.
Who’s the latest to get hammered by IA? I know they’ve been monitoring the protests. Did someone not speak politely to BLM and it get classified as a courtesy violation?
3 a week on average to the end of the year. We can do it. If the Stimulus check and employment checks are not sent out watch out. No money means more 10-91s and Robberies especially during the Holidays.
Called out sick. (Must be COVID). Enjoy yourselves tonight!!! I’ll be home wrapped up tight in my bed
Remember when everyone was going on strike to protest the city council calling us terrorists? Remember that?
No wonder people want to clown us like we are just expendables.
^^ Maybe when you all man up and stick it to them, then they'll understand. everyone should call in sick tonight, let the white shirts clean up the mess they started by not backing us in the first place. Maybe Koch can work tonight.. let him get some practice dealing with these turds. Looks like he needs it
ain’t nobody calling out sick cause then they can’t work that sweet sweet off dooty. money talks my brotha.
Ok 6:49. Agreed. Some folks gotta make that money. I totally get it. But if they’re not gonna do anything to “protest” the system and how the city has totally screwed us all over then those people have lost their right to complain. If the off duty means more to you then so be it.
Calling out sick only screws your co-workers. A lot of that went on this past weekend.
^^ this only works if we’re working as a team and everyone call out. Can’t count on any of you to do that cause your all individuals. Ain’t no teams here. Just people in it for themselves. Nothing will change. And the city will continue to screw us
Hey Cedar what’s up with the mayor getting zone checks at her house every hour for the past couple of days? I thought that bitch hated police but apparently she likes having us around.
@22:12. It’s security for me but not for thee.
not one mention of the west charlotte type shooting at the trump supporters in fort mill in the charlotte observer online. color me surprised. let a south charlotte type do the same and it would be a national meltdown.
do people think we are this stupid to not see the agenda? the silent majority is getting ready to speak in november and vy isn’t gonna be happy when we do.
f the mayor. while she’s apologizing she should apologize for being a pandering clown. bet those zone checks are super thorough. lol.
Johnny Jennings and Mike Harris just threw that Sgt under the bus so bad. They didnt need to release that BWC footage to the public. 2 week suspension over total nothing and getting sent to airport 3rd probably.
So video/audio recorded during a non-citizen contact made in private can now be used against you beware everyone. Our rights are gone
You could be talking at dinner and get into something afterwards. Then its published with WSOC a few weeks later. Thats aweful. Fuck this job.
Reliable sources confirm... your swearing during a 43 or non-citizen related language will be used to curb stomp you like they just did to Sherwood. Hard to imagine that morale could’ve gone even lower, but executive command managed it. Should’ve seen it coming after they all bent the knee to the mob a few months ago though. Never forget that they will now openly ruin your career for saying something in private while they publicly raise the fist in support of a political ideology. It would be wise to pursue education in a new field or a career change if you have the background. Many of us are stuck, but if you’re not, get out while you can.
"video/audio recorded during a non-citizen contact"
Do you mean police with police equipment discussing with other police while on duty what police plans are? How do you consider that private?
No mention of whether paid or unpaid leave.
Personally, I agree the guy is being scapegoated for the incident. He was a jerk, sure. But the command staff who designed and implemented and ordered that guy and all other police involved to kettle citizens marching along peacefully should be exposed and disciplined, up to and including firing or more.
Next time, everyone being 'ordered' to do something so horrible should consider their oath: you are required to uphold the laws and Constitutions of US and NC. You may not randomly teargas a ton of peaceful, if annoying, people because a person or two in the crowd has behaved badly. If they commit a crime, including assaulting a police officer or conspired to assault or affray or vandalism or whatever then charge the people committing crimes. You don't get to be all hyped up and execute military maneuvers against innocent people. And lie about it. And expose some jerk sgt. for a bad night. Even if that's his consistent position, deal with him properly. He either had one bad night or has consistently demonstrated this kind of behavior.
The people "in charge" are the problem. Shameful.
Ok, yes Scott can be a jerk, but that doesn’t negate that he knows his job well and had an off-script conversation with another officer. We all know the public would be horrified to hear the things that come out of the mouths of any public safety worker.
As for the “military maneuvers,” you have no idea what you’re talking about. Many of us were pelted by rocks, bottles, and sprayed with chemicals just before that went down. There is no simple way to go after individuals in a violent mob. And if the crowd stays after the dispersal order and they continue to engage in assaultive behavior, then shutting that shit down quickly with crowd control agents is the safest option for everyone present. The department should’ve been dealing that hand the whole week starting on Beatties Ford.
The fact that 8:25 even took that stance displays either a complete lack of experience in law enforcement, or the type of experience that consists solely of handing out hugs instead of arresting violent criminals.
Remember when we first got these damn BWC’s they said they wouldn’t hold private conversations against us or if you dropped an F bomb not in front of a citizen??? Anyone remember that??
wow. just wow. when u think they can’t go any lower they pull this.
What they did to Scott is total BS! If it we’re not for him spending 1,000’s of hours getting us training and gear we would not have POB’s. I did not see anything wrong with what he said. Sgt Stepp from CRU in Steele Creek got hammered with 160 hours for a couple of social media posts. Stepp and Scott are two of the few Sgts that take care of their people, give a damn, and worked hard. Both of them were at the top of the LT list. I am pretty sure the time they got will get them both kicked off. Good job Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police!
I just heard about both Sgt’s getting suspended. I worked with Steppe before he got promoted and he was a kick ass street cop. I would hit a door with him anytime. Shurrwood can come across as a prick but he is a good dude and cop. Actions from this new chief have already made me loose all confidence in this place. No one should be doing anything proactive work and next time let this city burn. I was at the riots and if it were not for the actions of the Major this city would have burned down like so manny others.
This place never ceases to amaze me. 2 weeks suspension for that shit? If this were years ago would we be having this conversation? Let’s look at this... whenever the city officials cave to the mob and throw their officers under the bus... guess what?.. they still protest! You’d be better off telling the woke mob to go fuck themselves. At least then you’d have the respect of your troops. We can’t keep lowering the standards and letting the mob dictate to us how we’re gonna police. Putney was always a hard nose, no nonsense cop until he got that position. Then he became a politician. Very sad.
Both Sgts. were on the list to be promoted and someone didn't want that. They had to make room for another one of their, "Yes" people with no experience.
