The shooting happened just before 6 a.m. on University City Boulevard, near America's Best Wings and Toppers Pizza near Old Concord Road. When officers got to the scene, they found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim, identified as 48-year-old Karen Baker, was pronounced dead at the scene, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said.
This is Charlotte's 56th homicide.
It happened along a busy stretch of University City Boulevard near Old Concord Road.
According to CMPD, officers were called shortly after 5:48 a.m. for an assault with a deadly weapon with injury. When they arrived, they found her with a gunshot wound.
Sources say that there are possibly 2 suspects both black males and that they are a looking for a black car also apparently seen in the area.
Her niece told a local television station that “she was an amazing woman, she inspired so many people and was a beautiful soul. She was the last person I know that deserved this. She would have given anyone the shirt off her back. And I’m sure she would have given the horrible person that shot her anything she had. Because her heart was pure gold! She was the most incredible person I knew.”
Business owners at the University Plaza shopping center said they are concerned about the safety of their employees.
Cedar's Take: These remote ATMs are just stupid. Charlotte City leaders the clowns that we are stuck with should move quickly to shut these things down. Bank of America should be held accountable as well. This is just crazy anywhere in Charlotte even more so in the University Area.
