It's been more than a decade since a young Charlotte teenager jumped a fence at Charlotte Douglas International Airport climbed into a US Airways 737 wheel well and would later fall to his death.
As with so many news stories this one died at the hands of an ABC News Editor and Senior Management who shit canned the story before it aired.
But for a brief moment on January 8th of 2014 the story had a chance at seeing daylight.
I had the pleasure and meeting Juju Chang who seemed genuinely interested in the story. Two days and a number of interviews later the 20/20 story went sideways.
Finally citing security concerns and story was killed. But the CP hypothetical lives on here.

That was the incident that caused the whole CMPD takeover of the airport police. Jerry Orr refused to hire more cops so the city manager fired him. Even though I make double what I used to make when it was just APD I’d rather make less money than put up with this shit.
^^ yup totally. Miss the good old days. No drama. No calea bs It was awesome.
@7:29. Yeah! We had to sue the city just to keep our jobs. They wanted to come in and bust us down to security guards.
Y’all needed to be busted down to security guards. Every time I fly out I see the sloppiest police officers ever.
Every time I leave the secured area at the airport, there is an 'officer' sitting at the desk texting. I realize someone has to be there to ensure there is no entry into the secured area, but Holy Smokes, every single time. I know 3 things when I come home: 1) the downstairs exit area is going to be different, and more confusing every time 2) my bus to long term parking will be the one that comes after I've seen 3 or 4 for the other parking lots, and 3) some PO with arms full of tatts will be texting, not even looking up while sitting at the podium.
Just make that a TSA job and get it over with.
Tisdale was a sad case. I have no idea what the external security is like today, yesterday or ever. But if the internal force is any indication, that means they are sitting in a car with the heater on texting. Or worse, trolling for a date at the takeoff overlook.
Fuck.. they still playing around on their phones at the podiums?? Think that’s what they got Mazzeo for…. But great to see the officers still not giving a fuck. I feel safer already
Mazzeo was a smart ass idiot and got what he deserved!
5:06, Gerson.. that you? Your legacy CMPD so you’d have that opinion of him. I worked with him over 7 years. All I can say is if he didn’t have the balls to get George Lauren and sue the fuck out of the city the original airport guys would be directing traffic on the lower level for $40k a year. Everyone knows the city was out to get him when he came back with that fat check and then told IA and command staff to fuck themselves. You wish you had balls that big.. speaking of balls, that guy outside the Walmart… his balls finally heal up after you tap danced all over them? I heard rumors but don’t know what is true but despite them firing him a second time… motherfucker sued the city a second time and from what I hear he won that lawsuit too. Not sure who got paid more, Maz or that lesbo chick from CFD.
530, people like you are so petty. There are bigger problems around here. Dave Moorefield is heading for the ER.
@443. You’re a troll. Moorefield retired some time ago. Now your just making up stories
831, I know he retired some time ago. He is still going to the ER regardless of Job status. Just understand some peoples’ problems versus what you speak about on here as trivial.
Ok well maybe elaborate then??? Why is he in the ER?
"Gersonian" banter!
Yeah Gerson .. why you hating on the Maz? He didn’t do an 1/8 of the shit you did and still they shit-canned him. I thought Maz was funny as fuck.
The city is fixing to pay a CFD batt Chief the retirement of a deputy chief as part of a settlement and their command staff said the city won the lawsuit. I would hate to see a loss.
City doesn’t care… it’s not coming from their personal pockets. I’d like to see them be that reckless and stubborn when it comes to getting their way if it was going to result in them paying out personally when they get sued. Things would change then.
