Scott Weiland STP October 27, 1967 - December 3, 2015

Every once and awhile, I get to stand watch at dawn, and in the morning's half light and waning darkness with sounds of the ocean surrounding me, my head fills with the music of Stone Temple Pilots, Pearl Jam and Foo Fighters. The sounds of my much younger self.

Sour Girl was Heather's theme song (yes, she was a teenage girl when I met her) and within days Big Empty would set the mood and the night would go as such.

And while Dave Matthews was more my preference her choice was Destiny's Child, Green Day and Linkin Park and so it goes.

The relationship would crash and burn, but the memories are still vivid thanks to STP and my Spotify never ending nostalgic play list.

So, today I'm noting Scott Weiland's passing seven years ago tomorrow and his career that spanned three decades,

Scott Weiland died of an accidental overdose of cocaine, ethanol, and MDA.

The singer was found dead on December 3, 2015 after passing away in his sleep on a tour stop in Bloomington, Minnesota. He had been on the road with his new backing band the Wildabouts and was scheduled to play the Medina Entertainment Center in Medina, Minnesota.

Weiland had had a long, public problem with addiction. But his music still gives me pause and joy and the ease that comes with the passage of time.

Lyrics

Driving faster in my car
Falling farther from just what we are
Smoke a cigarette and lie some more
These conversations kill
Falling faster in my car

Time to take her home
Her dizzy head is conscience laden
Time to take a ride, it leaves today
No conversation
Time to take her home
Her dizzy head is conscience laden
Time to wait too long, to wait too long
To wait too long

Too much walking, shoes worn thin
Too much trippin' and my soul's worn thin
Time to catch a ride, it leaves today
Her name is what it means
Too much walking, shoes worn thin

Time to take her home
Her dizzy head is conscience laden
Time to take a ride, it leaves today
No conversation

Time to take her home
Her dizzy head is conscience laden
Time to wait too long, to wait too long
To wait too long

Conversations kill
Conversations kill
Conversations kill

Time to take her home
Her dizzy head is conscience laden
Time to take a ride, it leaves today
No conversation

Time to take her home
Her dizzy head is conscience laden
Time to wait too long, to wait too long
To wait too long

Conversations kill
Conversations kill
Conversations kill

Yeah I still think about "H" now and then.

I thought I was the only one who used H for Heather. Still married to mine. STP was awesome.

Best music ever - nothing original in the 20 years since. Weiland was awesome.

10:59 AM, Says the Justin Beiber fan.

I saw STP as the closing act of Lalapalooza 2, at the worst possible venue of all time, the Metrolina Fairgrounds, mostly used for flea markets. It was flat, surrounded by a 8 ft tall chainlink fence, with a hastily built stage of scaffolding and plywood. It was in the middle of July 1993, ran from noon to 11 pm, and they ran out of drinking water at 2pm. There was no shade to be seen. Scott gave it his all that day, but in his state at the time, that wasn't much, but much better than the half dead performance I saw from Ozzy Osborne that same time period.

Not much is new on the music front today. MTV lost its magic years ago but still somehow exists. Saw Billy Joel once it was a good show. Tina Tuner in Atlanta in 2004 she amazing. Buffet, Coldplay were all good. BonJovi is a good act. Stones was impressive.

As a great friend of mine used to say...

...dammit man!!

Look back at all the talented people we've lost in the last ten years. Death is not kind. Just don't understand why Pelosi and Warner and Joy Reid still suck in air.

Cedar has always been pretty random. I don't understand the move to Meckburbia tho?

335, same thoughts..

3:35 and 6:34 If I understand it Cedar Post was threatened with being shut down. So rather than cave in to woke culture he simply created a separate local blog.

Shows at Metrolina Fairground were the greatest. Used to go to the Beach Music festivals. No water anywhere, but plenty of Styrofoam coolers of Old Milwaukee. Lots of red clay too. May as well throw your clothes away if you still had them on when you left.
Saw a great summer festival with Allgood headlining around '93 too. Some punk slapped his girlfriend and he got absolutely stomped by every guy around him until security saved his life. Ahh, the good old days.

How much do have to drink to blow a .17 at 4am in the morning? Did he take a half a day and go see some chick? That's a bold ass dude. Glad he didn't kill someone.

Way to go Lombardo! You fuktard!

Anonymous said...

Entitled idiot probably had a take home car his entire career!

Anonymous said...

If this had been years ago he’d have been given a ride home. No one injured and no 50 occurred. Probably some D1 rook trying to make a name for himself. and before you go saying “oh, well he has to, his bwc was on”. How many of us activate a bwc with an unmarked unit with permanent plates??? Just another snitch trying to get in JJ’s good graces

6:24...How many times have you driven drunk after being at the club with your ho's? Back in the day? You've probably got a 6000+ code number and a take home car? Back in the day!

852, preach my nig. I ran uptown in my window of opportunity.

Nope. Retired with 28.5 years you limp wrist faggot. Enjoy your new age of policing where you can’t trust the man next to you. It’s every man for himself from what I’m told. If I can’t count on you to back me with the admin, I’m gonna trust you with my life when bullets start flying? Hahaha. No thanks.

Anonymous said...

910, I only did 5 years but I saw what you saw. So much work could get done if the admin looked the other way on certain things.

Policy violations are wild right now.

6:24 He was in a Marked Unit. And Yeah that does make it a little bit of a difference rather in 1992 or 2022. .17 in a marked unit, wtf hahaha. I guess he thought it wouldn't draw much attention.

Anonymous said...

I know it’s egregious. .17, but you handle it internally. Don’t air out our dirty laundry. It makes us all look bad and decreases public trust. Don’t give JJ a chance to spike the football to the media who hates us.

Anonymous said...

It’s a revolving door. The arresting officer may be patting himself on the back but remember, when you’re no longer useful the administration will toss you out as well. Just remember what you did with this officer, it’ll come back to you in some form or fashion.

Anonymous said...

How many drunks has he locked up in his career? He's out there doing the same thing! Big difference between going a little too fast and driving drunk in a marked patrol car! A .17 ain't just a little too much to drink!

Anonymous said...

Back when I started the squad would have handled it appropriately. They would have gotten him home safe and the car would have been taken care of. This would also include a short discussion behind a warehouse with the rest of the squad and then nothing else would be said about it. You can't do that now.

Anonymous said...

That's back when the senior officers had the respect and ran the shifts.

Anonymous said...

7:44. Couldn’t agree more. The troops would’ve handled that shit. Sgt wouldn’t even know about it. We work with a bunch of “in it for #1,” selfish pricks nowadays. I don’t care if his BAC was .25… we handle our own and we don’t air our dirty laundry. Has nothing to do with a double standard. If I can’t trust you to back me with something like this, I can’t trust you to back me when my life is on the line. Don’t put yourself out there. Don’t stop no cars. Don’t try to be a hero… get in that hidey hole cause if you get in trouble… no one is going to help you. Period. We work with a bunch of snitches and backstabbers

Anonymous said...

I was torn but I totally agree with ^ 1:07. I took a 3 day rip cause some female officer on my shift went snitching to IA for some BS policy violation. Why not come to me if you got beef bitch?! You trying to score some points with the admin? Department ain’t what the old timers say it once was. Don’t you worry JJ, I’m currently using up my sick time and fittin to bounce. I’m sure you’ll be able to find some more diversity hires to replace me

Anonymous said...

326, who snitched?

Anonymous said...

4:54, I’ll give you 3 guesses. I’ll tell you if you’re right. Won’t matter anyway since I’m fittin to be out in a week

I just drove through Uptown Charlotte this afternoon. It was one of the most depressing things that I’ve seen in years. There are no people walking around and a bunch of black people just standing around on the corners.

Anonymous said...

I can see that there's a large majority of police who just cover up and let their buddy drunk drive. Yeah that's why no one likes the police

952, good luck!

I’mma about to swing on LT Davis like when she got her ass beat at the Verizon amphitheater concert . Dumb hoe got caught fuckin at work, give me a break!

Continued…i just saw Greensboro is hiring 20 if anyone is interested besides pineville.

5:23. No fuckhead. It goes deeper than that. We look out for one another (like a solider in combat) or so we should. Gone are those days so you don’t have to worry about it. The 23 year old with a 4 year degree in gender studies, who’s never been in a real fight will be quick to adhere to the BS CMPD policy and throw their buddy under the bus. Classic BLUE FALCON style. and then go home and brag to their ugly wife or girlfriend how he saved the day. Same scenario. If it was a command staff employee would 1 the same officer make that arrest and 2 would JJ be so quick to have that press conference so he could spike the football?

Anonymous said...

820, JJ had a press conference? He only has his job for D&I purposes. I drink and drive all the time, but I don’t go overboard. I agree about dudes with ugly wives around here.

Anonymous said...

What's new with the officer in transition?

Anonymous said...

None of these college educated social worker liberal left-wing type cops working today would have never survived on the streets when I started in the old Baker 4! And old LEC!

Anonymous said...

1134, oh please! I’ve seen some of this old timer garbage around here and it’s rough.

Anonymous said...

I passed thru airport this week, and to his credit, the officer wasn't playing Angry Birds at the podium, but Holy Social Security Batman. This dude was pressing the border of extreme retirement. Not sure he could have made it up the staircase had he needed to run without the escalator.

Anonymous said...

^^ that’s cause CMPD is so friggen smart. Soon as they took over they had 80 year old hire backs like House who started policing in the 60’s still working out here. I’d gladly go back to 2012 when it was just regular ol airport police, 12-hour shifts with every other weekend off and Waller was porking McNally, yeah… that McNally.
