Another Shooting at Forest Ridge
Just before 5PM on Wednesday Chaufa Johnson was shot at an East Charlotte apartment complex that has become a hot bed of criminal activity and shootings.
Police said there was an altercation in the parking lot of the Forest Ridge Apartments, and several shots were fired at Johnson. She was struck once and died while being transported to CMC Main.
The shooting appears to be a drug deal gone bad, as witnesses report a small bag was taken from Johnson as she lay on the ground.
According to WSOC TV, Johnson graduated from East Meck High School in June. She was enrolled at CPCC and was set to begin classes in January.
"That was my best friend. That was my everything. And she's gone," said Carlon Johnson, the victim's brother. "She's gone and there ain't no coming back."
Police have not named a suspect, but news media reports indicate there were plenty of witnesses, who spoke to detectives after the shooting.
Johnson had been arrested multiple times as a juvenile and at least 3 times this year for crimes ranging from marijuana, assault on a government official, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
The "Local Paper" quotes Valerie Porter, who lives in the apartment above Johnson's family, "It's not uncommon to hear gunshots in the area."
CMPD is reporting that they have no suspects at this time.
