It takes a certain kind of crazy to rob a bank. Even more so when you rob the same bank you robbed just last month.
That is what the Charlotte office of the FBI says happened yesterday in Ballantyne.
According to the FBI, Tuesday’s robbery happened around 2:15 p.m. at the RBC Bank branch on Ballantyne Village Way, located not far from the intersection of Ballantyne Commons Parkway and Johnston Road.
The FBI released surveillance photos of the suspect in the bank. One photo shows the suspect – a white man who wore a toboggan, dark sunglasses and a dark jacket – gesturing to a female teller. Another shows him standing at the counter, apparently holding money.
Last month CMPD officers and the FBI were called to the same bank to investigate a robbery. Bank employees describe the man as wearing a cowboy hat, sunglasses and a dark jacket.
In both robberies the suspect reportedly didn't show a gun, although it is not clear from police reports if the man said he had a gun or not or the teller in each case assumed that the robber had a gun.
Anyone who might recognize the man can contact the FBI Charlotte at 704-672-6100 or via E-mail: Charlotte.email@example.com or call Charlotte-Mecklenburg Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
Cedar's Take: First you have to be "Bat Shit" crazy to rob a bank. Second why are crimes like this never fully disclosed by the authorities. Back in the day, banks would call each other whenever a robbery occurred. Now its just part of doing business and NBD (no big deal).
This guy must have a back story, he doesn't seem like the usual drug crazed brother who just robbed a bank suspect. In fact looks like someone you could have stood next to in line at the Harris Teeter buying a couple of Hereford filets and a bottle of Kendall Jackson red wine.
He is pretty nondescript and could be just about anyone. Which will make him a little harder to find unless he returns again. My money says he'll be back because he wants to be caught.
Cedar Posts Update:
From WCNC News Channel 36:
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The FBI and Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have arrested a man accused of robbing the same bank twice in the Ballantyne-area.
The first robbery happened in early January and second robbery happened Tuesday afternoon at the RBC Bank off of Ballantyne Village Way.
Police charged Glenn Stewart Howie with common law robbery and robbery with a dangerous weapon in the two bank robberies.
According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, Howie was spotted driving a vehicle which matched the description leaving the scene of Tuesday's robbery.
Police arrested Howie and searched his vehicle where they found evidence related to the bank robbery.
Howie is currently in the Mecklenburg County Jail.
This is how poorly CMPD treats the local media and the public; Howie was arrested not long after he left the RBC bank yesterday and booked into the Mecklenburg County jail just after 5:00 PM yesterday afternoon. Meanwhile local main stream media wasted their resources at 5, 6, and 11 PM newscasts as well as live coverage this morning, asking the public for assistance in locating a suspect who was already cuffed and stuffed.
