Clown Car That is Charlotte City Government Sued Again

If you're like most people you've lost track of how many times Charlotte Fire, the Chief and City of Charlotte has been sued by current and former employees.

This time it's Battalion Chief Shane Nantz suing the Chief and the City of Charlotte. Chief Nantz has spent more than a quarter century of his life working for the city, the department and the taxpayers.

What's the nature of the suit?

Anonymous said...

It’s the typical CFD admin not following/ignoring the rules, regulations, procedures, and policies THEY set in place! The Command staff repeatedly fails to follow established procedures/policy and routinely “investigates itself.” The fire chief is in over his head, just ask anyone in CFD. He isn’t respected or much liked. It’s the same retaliation scenario as seen under Hannan. The Command Staff fear anyone smarter than them or anyone who dare to hold their feet to the fire. I can tell you Nantz isn’t someone you want to go toe to toe on policy with. He knows it better than anyone. They will lose this lawsuit, just like the lawsuit involving Crystal Eschert. To date, I’m not aware of a SINGLE lawsuit the CFD/City has won. There are MANY more lawsuits. The Fire chief had a sketchy past on Fairfax where he came from before Charlotte. Do your research. This needs to be investigated by the media.

Anonymous said...

11:14 basically reverse discrimination and retaliation. Nantz should have made DC and he's been passed over several times because he can't keep his mouth shut.

Cedar you should post the entire filing.

Anonymous said...

Agreed 11:14. Nantz isn’t on my friend list but he is the best fire ground Commander left in the CFD, knows the rules better than anybody and stands up for his people. He can not be quiet. If it isn’t in the rule book he raising a question about it and it really doesn’t have to be affecting him. He is an old school chief where it’s more about the fire department being done right. I think he knew a long time ago he wouldn’t get promoted but it wasn’t because he shouldn’t have been.

Anonymous said...

That seems to be the climate throughout the city regardless of the department! I knew his dad back in the day.

Anonymous said...

4:57- He’s not one to stay quiet. He will call you out on your B.S. He doesn’t scare easy, nor is he intimidated. I hope he wins, he is definitely being targeted and the CFD command staff DID NOT follow procedures or policy. He wasn’t wrong, the recruitment division is a joke. They is only a recruiting problem when people fail to show up for the written exam. They routinely turn away veterans, or much more qualified candidates. From what I hear, they are giving “selected” candidates from “needed demographics” the questions from the interview ahead of time. The part of the lawsuit about the social media post about recruiting led to the abrupt retirement of the Captain that oversaw that department once it came to light. The Command Staff is about transparent as a 12’ thick concrete wall.

Just came here to say FUCK Chief Nantz. Yeah yeah yeah, all the good stuff, but I can’t fucking stand to listen to that loud mouth little baby talk. The number of people that could probably sue him, or at least have him taken up town for harassment, would probably leave his head spinning. It’s nearly impossible to have a normal, adult conversation with him. His ability and drive to make the people around him feel stupid, just to pump up his “portly, shitty stashed” ego, is nauseating. So yeah, all the good stuff. All the history. All the lineage. Hardly management material most days. A lot of people can command a fire. That’s part of the reason ICS was started. So anybody could do it. He needs to command that mouth of his to shut up most days. He wouldn’t make it outside his little world of CFD. I sometimes wonder how his mouth allows him to make it IN CFD.

Hell of a fire fighter though! Isn’t that what you say about firefighters when you can’t find anything nice to say about them?

I do wish him luck though. I did read the entire document, and it seems like he might have a case. Maybe he can win some money, and give it all to charity, or the fallen fire fighters fund, or pay to get station 25’s patch redesigned again (am I right?!).

That felt good. Bring on the retaliatory responses!

Anonymous said...

11:38 I would agree on most of your points except one. Nantz is a damn good fireman. To a real fireman that’s not an accolade you just hand out that’s something you earn. In today’s time he’s in the minority. ICS has to be able to be used and when your inside fighting fire you have to know that the person giving orders is competent, with all those negatives you mentioned that I do agree with I have never heard one person say Nantz wasn’t competent or he wasn’t a good fireman. Loud mouth, ego or not I will take a competent fireman as a Chief all day long

Anonymous said...

If you think anyone can run a fire you obviously haven’t listened to the radio lately

Anonymous said...

If it wasnt for Shane Nantz I would be dead. He came to my house when I was on my last leg and talked me into going to treatment. So all the negatives you talk about, they aren't negatives thats who he is, in your face, get it done and no bs. If he hadn't done it to me I wouldn't be alive. I'm not the only one hes done it for either. Support the man alotta people owe him their career and their life!!!

Damn!

The hydrant humping hose draggers are out it full force today!

One thing is clear, all of yall must be either out of service or staging to have this much time on your hands.

I kid, I kid...

I think all of us can agree that any time the city loses a lawsuit for their stupid woke ass policies, it’s a good thing...

Love ya, mean it!

Anonymous said...

But for real, fuck nantz. Fuck him the way he says fuck almost every other word. Fuck him the way he talks fucking shit to fucking everyone. Fuck him the way he tells everyone to “kiss his fucking ass.” Fuck him for all the fucking meals he has ruined with his fucking mouth. Fuck him the way he throws some sort of fucking tantrum almost every fucking day, and we all have to fucking listen to it because he’s apparently “the fucking man!” Fuck him and his fucking west side bullshit! Nobody fucking cares. (I’m fucking kidding. I’m a fucking west sider too. I just don’t suck my own fucking fuck stick over it). West side for life! I guess Fuck the many many other important sides of the city and the citizens that live there? Naw, we work for fucking all of them. Fucking forget that Nantz drives to every other side of the city for fucking fires, because none of them happen in his fucking area lately. Fuck, didn’t he fuck one of those nice fucking ladies at the fucking credit union once? Like, some fucking home wrecking shit? I don’t fucking know, maybe I’m fucking wrong about that one, I can’t fucking keep up. I’m just fucking saying, maybe he’s always having to defend our fucking rights, because he’s in the fucking wrong quite a fucking bit? If he’s so fucking good at commanding fucking fires, why have I never fucking seen him at the academy teaching about fucking commanding fires? Maybe that’s not fair. Maybe he does teach down there all the time, and it’s just not the fucking classes I’ve taken and taught, of which there are many. Pretty fucking sure the last time I saw him at the academy, he fucking skipped out on half the fucking training and fucking talked shit about the portion he was there for. Real fuckin helpful! Fucking management material my fucking ass! I’m not all “hooray upper management” (which he is suing to become more a part of, so he can have even more fucking power and ego, and we will have to listen to his fucking mouth even more, allowing him to ruin our fucking day even more), but when I think about him as fucking management material, all I can think is “this fucking guy?” He is the fucking man, on a ton of levels, but let’s not forget what a fucking douche he is on a day to day level.

Fuck. Fuck?!? Oh fucking no!? I think my fuck switch is stuck in the on position!?! Oh fucking no?! Chief Nantz?! I’m sorry! I had no fucking clue it could happen like this!! Fuck!

For fucking real though, I read the fucking lawsuit, and once you get past all Chief Nantz’s tears (sp? Nantz’? I don’t fucking know) and bragging about how awesome he is and how fucking much his family has done for a fucking fire department that has no heroes once you’re gone, only employee numbers and the lingering smell of your firefighter farts, he might actually have a fucking case. Seems like he got fucking fucked. But I don’t know, “seems like” is not always the way it is. If you have something Nantz needs, he “seems like” an ok guy. See what I’m fucking saying?

I do fucking wish him all kinds of fucking luck from this though. I hope he fucking wins. He deserves anything he fucking gets. Fucking write ups, fucking winning lawsuits, everyone fucking walking out of the fucking room when he fucking walks in it. All of it. He’s earned it. I appreciate your fucking years of dedicated fucking service and controversy. We all fucking do! Gods speed!

I’m just talkin shit. The kind I learned from watching my Chief. That’s what we do here, right? Talk shit?

If you’re a dumbass, or a Barringer, or both, or maybe just one, you might want to read a few pages in on the lawsuit to see that you were referenced/ put on blast about how you received unequal treatment from Nantz when you did your dumb shit. Why they gotta bring up old shit, right?!?

Well, had to chime in. As everyone knows us cops and firefighters all have a little type A in us, but some times we have to put the envy or jealousy to the side. There is no question whether Shane Nantz was denied due process, or was retaliated against by the past and current Chief. Those are facts that everyone knows and had witnessed. There is also no question as to whether he was or is qualified for any of the positions that he has competed for. We know this because he is over qualified for every position that he’s applied for. We are talking about the Senior Battalion Chief in the city with as much experience to go along with it. He may be outspoken at times, as we all are, but if you ever listened to what he is saying, it’s usually to help or benefit someone else. Most places, a “Brother/Sisterhood” lifts each other up, or pushes each other ahead when it comes to promotions. Here we have promotional processes manipulated, scores changed, rules changed during the process etc. Sometimes like mentioned earlier, the jealousy has got to be swallowed and support has to be shown for the ones that work everyday to make this place better for those that will follow.
Shane Nantz, this is the guy who is constantly on the front lines, fighting for Your rights, to make sure that what happened to him, never happens again in the city of Charlotte Police or Fire. This is the guy who never hesitates in the middle of the night when the phone rings from a Brother/Sister calling for help. This is the guy who doesn’t care that he wears a White Shirt when he hears that one of his firefighters needs to be off work last minute and can’t find a replacement. There is Nantz riding the back of a fire truck. I haven’t seen any command staff from the past two administrations ever cover for someone on the front of a truck, let alone the back of the truck. He’s one of the few that sacrificed working this past Christmas when his shift was off duty, just to keep some folks from having to work mandatory overtime. I think many take it for granted how much Shane Nantz does for the FD while he keeps getting held back by an Administration that is just scared that he is more qualified, has more experience, has a better following and simply works to protect the history of the CFD rather than dismantling it.

Anonymous said...

What about McGarity's flip-flops on duty? Are they CMPD approved? If not he's in violation! Oh my goodness!

Anonymous said...

Let us not forget, Shane Nantz also runs his mouth and drops F-bombs a lot. That is what I learned from cedar post today. The other things are nice, but just not as compelling. 😂

Good luck to Chief Nantz. I hope he gets some sort of protocol or something named after him! Like, Garcia, or Kelly, or “Covid time”. We will call it “The Nantz.”

When you have to sue to get promoted, you have performed “The Nantz.” I know others before him did it, but they didn’t do “The Nantz”

Anonymous said...

To the guy with the F Bomb Tourette episode you about hit him with a car and didn’t bring him a blizzard. Come on. Let it go

Anonymous said...

How about, when Administration doesn’t follow policy, procedure, the law or even their own rules and then get caught and have to take ownership of their misdeeds, we say, “Ha, you got Nantz’d”. He’s one of the few that will take ownership when many others, deflect, deny and defend. Haters be Jealous.

Cedar post is pretty well known by charlotte public service at this point. I’m sure a ton of people have seen this post. I just really thought there would have been more “support” for Nantz after F bomb guy and original hater gave their two cents each. Maybe Nantz ISN’T as liked as he thinks he should be? I just read his lawsuit front to back, and it seems like he and his legal team sure think a lot of Nantz. I would have expected more banter on a forum where people can finally blast him and talk shit without having to listen to him talk, or having him walk out of the room after some useless empty comment. You know, what he normally does when he gets his bullshit thrown back at him. I’m sure people are busy, or have better things to do, but it is fun to read.

For anyone that wants a summary of the lawsuit, CFD management didn’t follow policy (which they should probably “pay for”), and Nantz thinks he’s entitled to a promotion because he’s been here the longest, he signs up for the committees, had family on in the past, and runs his mouth the most.

Anonymous said...

Nantz is like every old school Chief that took up for his people, who could run a fire in his sleep, can get things done just by showing up. His captains never transfer away from him and every bc is looking for him when they go into a fight. He’s brutally honest and quite possibly may be the most knowledgeable person I have ever talked to about the Fire Dept. He’s fiercely loyal and you know where you stand with him, if he doesn’t like you you know it and if you don’t like him he’s good with it. What makes him different is I have been talking to people that hate his guts and they talk pure trash on him and when they get in trouble they want his number. You know what he takes their call and he knows they hate him but he helps them anyway. He is going to do right by them. Does everyone like him, no, but I would say the majority of people would say if they had one call and their job was on the line Nantz would be in the top five of who they would call. He would be my first. He’s that guy. He’s not smiles he’s about fixing the problem. He got screwed more times than you can count. Does he run his mouth well who doesn’t. It should be about whose the most knowledgeable

Anonymous said...

Seniority should count for something and college degree requirements should be gone!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

It would seem, based on the length of these posts, that CFD really does have much more time on their hands. Guess with all the rain lately, probably makes washing your Chevy’s a waste of time. It used to annoy me to no end that firefighters bitched how their pay should be linked to police pay, as though the day-to-day job description were even remotely comparable. Reading some of these posts, in addition to cramping my thumb to reach the end of them, affirms that y’all have too much free time on your hands. I’d rather have to read endless useless posts about Stukey, Brisbon, the pledge fund, McGarity, and the airport before I wasted another second listening to Charlotte firefighters moan about how difficult their lives are. You can pay someone good money on a 25 year system to sit around and chill with their buddies every couple of days and maybe fight a fire once a year, and they’ll still find something to whine about.

Anonymous said...

It is funny to the difference in firefighter comments and police comments. You can see its a wide difference in how we write. The firefighters articulate themselves better and have more passion in their writings. The cops are just like "give me pussy Amy" or "I want pledge fund now". You really do see the complexities that separate these two career paths and sickness that so many police officers are challenged with on a daily basis. Many say firefighting isn't even a career, but just a job. Many say that cops are criminals that haven't been caught yet.

CedarPosts, I salute you.

Our important is handled. 1. Answer emergency calls in four minutes. 2. Get widespread community support. 3. Maintain solvent pledge fund. Once all three are met gripe and complain all you want.

Anonymous said...

^^^This is why you will never get ahead as an organization.

1. Get paid at northern pay rates..45/h
2. Get 25 year retirement standard
3. Overtime is double pay
4. Higher standards for applicants(4 years service or college)
5. Maintain physical standards or termination
6. Anonymous vote for all promotions above captain

But yeah...pledge fund and community support in a city of section 8 and snobs.

To whom it may concern. Evidently so one out there is spreading their rumor that I (James Stikeleather) am the F***y F**k author of the post bashing Chief Nantz. Let me be the first to tell everyone on here that I am not the author. I’m not afraid to hide behind the Anonymous name. I have been and always will be very out spoken on what I believe is right. As matter of fact I got a lot of that mentality from Chief Nantz as he was one of my mentors as I started out in the Volunteer FD and in my Career with Charlotte. I respect the hell out of Chief Nantz and would never bash him of anyone else for that matter without being willing to tell them myself. I’m not a coward like Mr F**** F***** guy or the person or persons spreading the rumor that I’m such. Shane ( I can call him that because I’m friends with him) has done everything right but neither have I or anyone for that matter. But one thing he will do is admit that fault and also stand up for you no matter what when you do make a mistake. Mr F**** F**** guy is prob a no fire fighten piece of crap that truly isn’t west side material. Either way we should be one department fighting for the greater good and I honestly feel that this lawsuit is something that will bring numerous problems with out administration to light. As for you response to this message. I’m available to take calls anytime

Has a problem with previous management, gets removed from airport, throws tantrum, says f*** a lot. Previous management leaves, new management arrives. Has problem with new management, gets removed from job again. Throws tantrum, says f*** a lot.

On the resume though, it says “has filled many positions within the department. Strengths include problem solving, conflict management and resolution, and communicates well with others”

Like anything, it’s really all in what lens you look at it through.

Another lens might show that someone consistently has a problem with management. Or maybe can’t keep their nose clean.

How many people on the fire department go their entire career without having the trouble that a select few seem to have on the regular?

Best of luck to you Shane (most everyone should call him that, because it’s his name).

-Stikeleather (I’m kidding. Most definitely not Stikeleather. Stikeleather is a much better fire fightin fire fighter)

Also, you called him “Chief Nantz” three times, before you called him Shane. So, are you friends with Shane, or are you an ego boosting subordinate to Chief Nantz?

Don’t get too bent out of shape about a few people shit talking Shane on a cop complaining website. It’s really just a little bit of “tit for tat.” I think Shane can handle it. As much as he dishes out, I’d like to think he can take it. He’s got a big ol’ shovel, so let’s hope he has a big ol’ wheelbarrow too!

This. Is. FUN!

Anonymous said...

Stike! You shouldn’t type and drive. Probably shouldn’t go in writing on the internet about it either. It is A) against the law to be on your phone while driving, B) you need to be aware and paying attention, as there are mustachioed chiefs driving ENTIRELY too fast for conditions and those around him/her, trying to get to fires (or even just fire alarms) that aren’t in their area so they can make other chiefs look bad. You wouldn’t want to hit one (or be hit by one) and suffer a career ending shoulder injury, or worse.

Anonymous said...

To all those touting Shane as an “old school” chief:

Be careful with that. Let me play the part of cross examination when it comes to “character”.

Lawyer: “So, Shane, you and a lot of other folks seem pretty proud of how “old school” you are, is that correct? Are you “old school”

Shane: “Well fuckety fuck mcfuck yeah, I’m old school. My whole fuckin family is old school. We all pissed fires out, and fuckety fuckin own this place”

Lawyer; “Well that’s nice”

Shane: “Fuck”

Lawyer: “So, let’s go over what old school fire fighters used to get in to trouble with on the regular. You stop me when I’m wrong. Racism, adultery, harassment, sexual assault, painting each others balls, drinking on the job, smoking dope on the job, sobering up on the job, staying at the job too much and ruining their home life, stealing from target, sexism, did I mention racism, double dipping, hazing, nepotism, newellism, west meckism, davidsonism, corntownism, g%er’ism”
(Those last few are just for fun. Love all you guys). “So Shane, if you’re old school, am I to assume you’re also all of the things I just mentioned?”

Shane: well, wait a fucking minute.

Lawyer: “can we please have it read back to us what Shane said in reference to being called “old school”?

Court recorder: “ Well fuckety fuck mcfuck yeah, I’m old school. My whole fuckin family is old school. We all pissed fires out, and fuckety fuckin own this place”

Lawyer: “what were you saying about being old school, again?”

Shane: “well fu...”

Lawyer: “nothing further”

Don’t be so quick to put titles out there, is all I’m saying. Give Shane a chance.

From one Chief to another, Nantz is pretty good at what he does. All this playground banter and bashing is funny to some, but largely unnecessary and just firefighters being firefighters. Probably half of it isn’t even meant to be serious, its just a person, or a few people trying to get a rise out of Shane.

Also from one Chief to another though, I can tell you where this whole entire thing went wrong. If Shane had not involved himself in this clandestine love note passing bullshit, and then tried to be super sleuth while at work, on his work computer, on his work email or word program, none of this would be an issue for him. Seems like the GO maybe didn’t follow policy, so maybe that will be addressed or Shane will get a bunch of money and a new position with a new number on his car. However, the other thing that was not followed is something that comes out of the Chief 101 handbook. STAY IN YOUR LANE! MIND YOUR BUSINESS! RUN CONTROVERSY UP THE CHAIN! If you’re supposed to be the one that’s supposed to deal with it, your next level up will tell you so. If it’s above your pay grade, and gets bumped back down to you, take it to HR! There are people who are smarter than you, who are paid to deal specifically with things like this.

So, I don’t think a room full of respected firefighters, captains, etc would ever disagree that Shane can command a fire. Talking shit about him having pride in the west side, going to fires that aren’t in his area, maybe running his mouth a little too much, that’s all just silly petty stuff that is meant to get a rise out of people. Disregard it, and move on. Shane should have known better than to start this investigation without the involvement of a superior. He could have told his informant that also. All other things equal and unimportant, that mistake is one that could probably keep him from being viewed as “next level” material. Maybe he’s at his highest level of competency. Or incompetency, depending on how you look at it.

I hope Shane comes out ok on this one. Also on this one though, as the old PSA used to say “you can learn a lot, from a dummy”

Anonymous said...

It’s almost like it could be a personnel question on the Captains assessment:

“A firefighter, known for controversy and a dumb look on their face, comes to you with an envelope that was placed secretly in the back of their truck at a station over night. Inside that envelope is some obviously controversial and anonymous material, directly relating to a controversial and anonymous topic currently going on in your department. You think you’re a super sleuth and entitled. How do you handle this situation”

In fact, put that question on the FF2 test. They should be able to handle that one.

Do they still ask personnel questions of new hires before they even have the job? Maybe ask them and see if they can avoid the lawsuit.

is that chief 101 handbook the same one you read when you let your boss get on us for not wearing a safety vest on a dead end road or not wearing a turnout coat when we are pumping or maybe even getting on us when we wear a denim coat when its cold you read your book and no one will ever respect you

Anonymous said...

I love how threatened everyone is by safety vests and education. :::::stomping feet and pounding fists::::: “ain’t nobody gunna talk to me about no safety vest, and I ain’t never seen a book put out a fiar.” :::::toothless dumb look:::: “I’m operatin dis here fiar truk at a 2 alarm fiar, and you wont me to take two seconds of my time lookin at my truk to slip on a safety vest?!” Makes me laugh. You’d think these engineers were actually having to spin the impeller by hand to build pressure, and raise the aerial by themselves with a rope. Give me a break. It’s an easy request to fulfill. It’s not like you’re being asked to sniff dog shit or justify your position.

Anonymous said...

@9:58 yeah, he discussed it with city HR, but not before he tried to super sleuth it himself. That’s what got him wrapped up in this whole thing. That, and his informant. I don’t think Nantz did anything wrong, EXCEPT being too curious. The lawsuit is pretty clear that he didn’t intend to do wrong, but he should have known better than to even attempt what he did. Nantz is getting screwed on this one, for sure, but he also just thrives on controversy. Him and Marty. At what point do you just leave shit alone and stop looking for trouble? Can we all agree that this would not be happening if everyone had just stayed out of it, and moved on. When you involve yourself in things that are not your fight, you will get burned.

How about getting us a pay raise and some insurance when we leave. That would require some office work instead of safety vest patrol at 1500 square foot house fires at 2 pm on tuesday on the way home. As for justifying my position every staffed truck in the city has an engineer 24 hours a day 365 days a year even on saturdays and sundays and at night too so that is justified enough as for sniffing dog crap I would have to get in line behind you

Anonymous said...

8:29 I’m glad I don’t work for you. If every supervisor thinks like you no wonder they put stuff in the back of trucks at the fire department

Oh my! You will HAVE to move on from the insurance thing. This is a new day. People are living longer, and being kept alive with things that would have previously killed them (thanks science), which makes healthcare expenses that much more expensive. It’s not sustainable to insure people who aren’t a part of the workforce anymore. It’s happening/happened all over the country. You now have to plan for your own future, save your own money, make your own investments. It’s not like they didn’t tell you about it day one! I’m lucky enough to have the insurance when I finish up, so I do hate it for you, but I just don’t have sympathy for you. They give you 25 years advance notice that you won’t be covered once you’re done. You could leave THAT DAY! You could investigate other options THAT DAY! You agree to do the job anyway. Then you turn on the tears once you take a minute to realize what you’ve signed up for.

Do you also know that you aren’t paying in to social security? Just making sure that’s clear.

Let’s not divert from the Shane thing. He’s the clown were discussing here. The insurance thing is too complex and serious. I don’t think you could keep up.

Isn’t every truck in the city staffed 24/7 with 4 people that can ride in the engineers position? Don’t get too bent out of shape. I only said that shit to get a rise out of you! Geezus, i REALLY thought all of you would have thicker skin, being big bad old school firefighters.

As for getting in line behind me, SICK BURN! I honestly don’t mind the smell of dog shit. I don’t love it, but I don’t hate it. I used to hate it, but after surviving covid, it doesn’t really get to me like it used to. Thanks China! You don’t even have to get in line behind me, we can sniff it together, at the same time, with our safety vests on.

A PAY RAISE! You want a PAY RAISE!? For WHAT?!? You work 10 days a month, and can even be scare fire and be hired!

Thanks Pete

@9:18 what? Wipe your drool and try again? What are you saying?

None of you work for me! I don’t work anymore, BITCHES! Been retired for years! With my insurance!

I think we can all just stop now this is mostly just shit talk at this point I don’t think we are getting anywhere with this half these posts are just running mouth and others are just people getting mad about it let’s stop and get behind eachother instead of against each other

I just heard a CFD Battalion Chief was arrested today? Anyone know who it was?

Anonymous said...

BC Gerin. DUI.

He will get roasted for it. Maybe demoted or some days off.

He shouldn’t have done it, and he’s probably aware of that.

There should probably be about 70% of the department with a DUI. They just haven’t been caught. Everyone will point and laugh though.

Best of luck Chief.

9:56- 70%? Really? That’s a pretty ballsy statement. 20% maybe, the vast majority aren’t stupid, many don’t even drink, and many more don’t do something foolish like drink and drive. We’ve all seen the results. I for one wouldn’t think of risking my career. Have I drank when out to dinner? Yes. Did I drive? Nope. Have I been to a party or the Ball and drank? Sure have. I’ve been to the Ball and got completely sideways, I didn’t drive. I got a hotel room for the night! I didn’t drive. Do I feel bad for him? Nope. He knows better, and made a stupid decision that has consequences. He had a lot career-wise to loose. He’s also on probation, and should be demoted. He action to drink and drive displays poor judgment to others. The last BC to get a DWI retained his position and was even in charge of the accident review board! He’s a nice guy, been good to me, never had a problem. I hope this helps serve as a wake up call to the rest. My guess is they will not denote him, sweep it under the rug, and hold the rest of us to a different standard. Transparency my ass....

@10:40 sorry my made up statistic upset you so much. Maybe I should have said something less inflammatory, and speculative... something like degree% or blue paint% or pledge fund% or nantz%. The point remains the same. Plenty of people who will be playing holier than thou, and pointing and talking shit, ALSO have gotten away with some shit they probably shouldn’t have... luck got them home a few times, and now they are going to point and laugh at a guy who has gone through the ranks and steps to get where he’s at, and now he’s made a pretty stupid and common mistake.

Ahhhhh, ol Chief Gerrin! You know, he was one of the first people to haze me when I got on the fire department. Ahhhhh, the good ol days!

Anonymous said...

Trafficvest% I forgot that one.

Gerin will come back from this. He’s the kind of guy that will figure out how to make himself a success story. He will come back with the “humble head hung low” act with that dumb dog look on his face with some long wordy story about how he had been dealing with something forever, he made a mistake, got help, got introspective, worked on his home life, refocused bla bla bla bla. We will have to listen to it, at length, one day. Geezus we’ve ALL had to listen to that man, at LENGTH, MANY TIMES.

In the mean time though, the city will pay him chiefs pay and put him on a special project or light duty until they figure everything out. Who knows how many holidays he will get to be at home for now, how many nights and weekends he will get to spend at home. All at more than $100k.

I wonder if his seniority will continue to grow? I don’t know how that one works. Interesting though.

I wonder if he paid for the legal aid that the city offered at open enrollment time?

Anyway, cheers to the chief. 🍺🍺

Well, looks like all the news outlets just got wind of it. It’s on every station, I just got a news alert. He’s most likely demoted, as SHOULD happen. He’s on probation, so if he doesn’t get demoted, someone will sue. More have been fired/asked to resign for less.

Anonymous said...

The last Few DWI’s in the CFD haven’t resulted in demotions or terminations on first time offenses. In fact no first time offense has ever resulted in a demotion or termination. At least it hadn’t before I retired.

Am I missing something? Legit question.... isn’t there still a “innocent until proven guilty” thing In American justice? Says he was CHARGED with a DUI, not convicted. Maybe DUI is different?

You suck one d***, and suddenly, for the rest of you’re life, everyone goes around calling you a c*%k sucker.

Anonymous said...

Yes!!!! 9:14. Yes!!!! How about don’t sale your people down the river and get holier than now until the justice system has ran its course.

Anonymous said...

@10:40 I’m with you, man! I’m better than Gerin too! Yeah!! Demote him!

You sound like a basic bitch. Take your Andy Griffith ass back to Mayberry. Nobody gives a shit that you don’t drive home from dinner or that you take it in the ass after the prom.

Gerin, stupid mistake. Real stupid. Glad the news report doesn’t state anyone got hurt. I hope you come back from this. I’ve had a few friends that have gotten DUI’s. Nobody deserves the death penalty or this cancel culture bullshit after something like this. If it’s victimless and no injuries, do your time, learn your lesson and move on. That’s what used to happen back in the day. Now little bitches like 10:40 want to walk around and talk about how awesome they are and how they do it different and how they jerk off to straight porn only. Give me a break. There’s no letting people make mistakes and learn from them.

Innocent until proven guilty. That’s all I’m saying. Not saying he will be proven “innocent” just saying that he might be, and then he will still be your chief, and you will still be calling him sir.

The Gerin DUI is about more than just a chief driving drunk. This is PTSD after the golf store fire.

Anonymous said...

Asking for help AFTER you get caught? PTSD or not, there was and still is help available. It is stated MANY times by health and safety including adding behavioral health services to OurHealth which is FREE. He has a problem and he got caught. If you need help, I and many other will break my back trying to help, if you ask. Chief Fincher and Hannan ALWAYS said, “come to me for help, I’ll do anything and everything I can. Don’t come AFTER you get caught or test positive on a random drug test.” Problems aside, he made a very poor decision and as a leader, showed poor judgement and leadership.

Anonymous said...

Your right Fincher and Hannan did say that. Johnson has said people take things to personal. That was when somebody had went to him about ptsd. It’s a different time and leadership. Gerin screwed up just like a lot of others and they kept their rank and job too.

A priest, a rabbi, and a Chief walk in to a bar...

Anonymous said...

I was down at the shop the other day. They were installing a “blow and go” in a chiefs vehicle. I thought that was weird.

I ALSO saw Chief Nantz blowing himself before he left to go a fire. A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT kind of blow and go.

Anonymous said...

Is that like your son finally got hired and he couldn’t before blow and go or is that something different.

Anonymous said...

HA!!!! Nantz got his pee pee smacked at CSB today! Looks like his defense might have been a little weak and his attorney maybe came on a little strong! Hilarious!
