Local Media Taking Heads Crying Again

Local Charlotte news media is crying again about being shut out of CMPD's Active Shooter Survival Training. 

The clueless wonders just don't get it. 

Take Robin Kanady's Tweet:

"CMPD limiting access to the free press, this was a public meeting FOR the public, but Queen City News  and other stations were told the media could only record first 10 or last 10 minutes"

CP makes no excuse for laughing at some of the local talking heads like Robin.

So cry some more Robin, it suits you. Maybe if talking heads like yourself wouldn’t glorify these shooters by repeating over and over their names, quoting their manifestos and thereby encouraging the next mass shooter, we wouldn’t need these classes.

Originally, the media was prohibited from the Active Shooter meeting, according to the CMPD public information office.

When QCN arrived, cameras were stopped in the hall of Hickory Grove Baptist Church before even arriving.

QCN crews were told the media was only allowed to shoot the first ten minutes of the two-hour presentation or the last ten — even though it’s the same program that’s been done for the past six years.

“Obviously, in light of what’s been happening throughout this country we felt the need to make sure that people in the public we could have them come out and come,” said Johnathan Frisk, an officer with the CMPD crime prevention unit.

The issue is a public meeting, where those sworn to protect and serve limit access to inform others not attending.

Hickory Grove executive pastor, Steve Adams, said the limited access by the church is at the advice of CMPD.

People of all ages and races listened intently and recognized the danger of active shooters.

If a person with a plan to carry out an active shooting scenario was in the room, cameras with limited access might never know.

QCN asked Frisk if a person could be planning an active shooting or something else.

“So, an entity that informs the public is allowed to record for 20 minutes, but someone else who could be watching tactics for this is allowed to go in and be there for two hours; how do you justify that?”

“I don’t think we are going to speak on that right now,” replied Frisk.

CP's Take:

Unfortunately Frisk (ironic name isn't it?) didn't have the answer he needed, so here it is. 

Unhinged potential active shooters are not about to sit through a two hour class surrounded by uniformed officers. To a potential shooter even with a minimal level of paranoia, the stress would be unbearable. 

But lets take this a little further. 

Say you're a human resource manager at Amazon. Your job is to hire and unfortunately from time to time fire employees. So you decide to take the class just on the off chance that one day you have fire someone who you don't suspect as being unhinged. 

Unbeknownst to you one such employee sees you on a news story taking the class. This triggering event leads to a mass shooting.

Do we really want to give CMPD's defensive play book to a potential shooter? Of course not!

But Ding Dong Robin isn't the only one, Nick Ochsner back on June 18 spent much of the day bitching about being excluded from CMPD's Active Shooter Class:

Today in @CMPD’s war in (SP) transparency: we got this stern note banning the media from an active shooter training *open to the public*. 

Apparently the leaders @CLTgov think the public shouldn’t know about an important and newsworthy topic like active shooter trainings.

Poor Nick.

No wonder the public views News Media with the same distain usually reserved for used car salesmen, (Time to sign baby!) insurance agents, lawyers and IRS employees.
