Camry Hybrid Pace Car?

Tom Sorensen a Charlotte Observer Columnist, has reported on his blog "Tom Talks" that the pace car at the 2009 Coca-Cola 600 will be a Camry Hybrid.

In case you are laughing or in my case crying, Tom is quick to point out that pace cars have to pass a speed and handling test to qualify, and the Camry Hybrid did.

Of course you have to wonder how much Toyota paid for the privilege?

All I can say is pass the test or not it's just all kinds of wrong!

I grew up in the era of production muscle cars, Corvette, Mustang, Camaro, Firebird, Challenger, Roadrunner, GTX and GTO. Big block V-8 engines, Hooker Headers, Glasspack Mufflers and plenty of VRRRRROOOOOM!

The kind of cars that made your heart race, girls stop and stare and your neighbors put down the hedge trimmers and spend the next two hours walking in circles in your driveway.

I'm sorry a Camry just doesn't do it!
