Enough, of this bull shirt from the minority interests. Sad and tragic the death of Jonathan Ferrell is simply a long chain of bad choices made by the victim who for some reason charged head long into a armed officer who had less than 6 seconds to re-act in a situation where everything was in play.
Maybe the answer is that bad choices were made by all, poor officer training, poor communication from dispatch, poor interaction between officers. But the bottom line is Jonathan Ferrell, regardless of the outcome was the reason the police where put in this situation.
It is time to address not the guilt of the officer but of the system that brought everyone to this point, and it is clear that it was not about race rather how the police interact with irrational people.

Hi Cedar. I'm very curious about something. and I'm not trying to be a smart butt.
You said...
"Maybe the answer is that bad choices were made by all, poor officer training, poor communication from dispatch, poor interaction between officers"
So my question is this...If Officer Kerrick did not shoot Jonathan Ferrell, What would the likely outcome have been?
The only thing that comes to mind for me is that Ferrell takes the gun and shoots Kerrick, but obviously others see a different possibility and since you mentioned poor officer training, I wonder what his alternative was.
Meetings with the Chief tomorrow. It's time to voice our displeasure with them. Let the command staff know that they LIED to every Officer. Putney needs to step down as the Chief to save face but he won't.
If you care about CMPD you will be at the meeting and voice your displeasure.
Come forth with documentation...wearing a mic in isn't that expensive or hard and as long as you're not squirrelly you'll never be found out. Leak it out. Get folks accountable. I don't know who's gonna go to that meeting and say "F you, you lied to us," but I can only hope someone does.
Whoever is attending the meeting might want to print off the following and take a copy......makes all the points about what CMPD has done to wrong Kerrick.

There's a directive against unknowingly recording another employee so they would just burn whoever recorded it.
5:54 thanks for coming in.
Fair question. First I really can't say given the situation I would have done anything different. And I too, would have emptied my weapon. Hell, he would have taken two in the chest from my wife at the front door.
That said, Kerrick was woefully unprepared for the situation. He had clearly been told several not just two opposing ways to deal with this sort of threat. Kerrick was in a lose - lose situation. In the 6 seconds to choose I think given the information he had he made the right decision.
Had Ferrell stood at a distance, paced back and forth in front of the headlights, shouted obscenities threatened to whoop Kerrick's ass and then rushed Kerrick going lethal would have been excessive. But Ferrell gave no warning gave no indication and just kept coming.
But, had it been a beat down, I'll assume Kerrick be accused of too much force then as well.
10:53 correctly said there is a directive against recording other employees. However, did you know a few years back Romo added cameras to every hallway in the LEC? The conference room on the third floor is video and audio recorded. Some, maybe all, of the supervisor offices on the 2nd floor are video and audio recorded, yet none of this is made public knowledge. I guess they can violate their own policy when they want.
As for recording the meeting, you have to get caught recording it. They aren't going to frisk everyone at the door. Its as easy as turning on the video/audio on your cell phone. Get home, record it to a different "generic" device, delete the original from your cell.
@11:46 hahahahahahahahahahahahahahah hahahahahahahaha hahahahahahahahahahahah hahahahahahahahahahahahah
seriously? Put cameras in every hallway in the LEC? and in supervisor offices...
dude seriously. you need to up your medication.
The hallways are audio/video recorded, or at least have cameras in them. So is the conference room. I'm not sure about the supervisor's offices.
I think Cedar tweeted this earlier "Jonathan Ferrell has become a low impact martyr" if I understand the thinking Ferrell is one on those black lives that didn't matter, it wasn't an outrageous Officer Involved Shooting or death while in custody like Freddy or the guy in the choke hold.
Black people have just no interest in this case their attention span is about that of a gnat.
Roy Cooper won't get any votes for a run for governor standing of Ferrell grave and he knows it. I say the case is dropped.
Kinda reminds me of the DA during the Duke rape scandal... Pushing a non issue to get the black vote and ultimately backfired....
So what is the word reference Putney's chat with the troops yesterday?
As a retired CMPD officer, I am torn. We often comment that we run towards danger when everyone else runs away. Our tolerance of fear is or at least should be greater. You cant be in fear for your life just because someone bigger than you runs towards you. It happens in police work ...all the time. Especially if you have two officers with you. ( Dont use John and Andy. Tactics was part of the issue there) Younger officers today never even contemplate going hands on. The weapon is the first thing out. That is common knowledge, whether Im the only one to say it or not. Yes we have to stand up for our brothers in blue, but we have to do something about the squirrels we work with also. They make the job as hard for us as the thugs.
The protestors are back at the courthouse for the lunch hour. There are only seven or so. Why are we not organizing a counter protest for Blue Lives Matter?
I guess the real question is why aren't you organizing a counter protest?
I think you can probably guess that answer..................I so wish I could.
Wow, most of you on here are cops. And you think it's ok to shot and unharm person. 😪
Newsflash 4:18, officers get shot and killed by "unarmed" suspects all the time. When a suspect goes for your weapon it's a deadly force situation.
Good point 9:35. 4:18, of all the calls an officer responds to, how many do you think are "man with a gun calls?" All of them. 100%. As soon as that officer gets on scene, there is a gun in play.
Before you come back with some one line quip, educate yourself. If I have a weapon on my hip and you reach for it (or functionally appear as though you are) while I'm minding my own business or rightfully holding it due to a perceived threat, your light switch is getting flipped too.
That's the way the world works. Individual rights are all the rage until the lefties realize they apply to LEOs too.
(educated civilian here)
12:53, just saw your comment. I know who John and Andy are. But can you share the "tactics" portion with us for educational purposes?
4:18. So what that most of us on here are cops. Only comment if you have something of importance. Like 9:55 said I agree with them 100 percent. In the video footage of the dash cam. I would have shot him also. Getting your hand on my service weapon is a deadly force situation. We are trained to shoot until the aggressive act stops. If it would have required all 16 rounds to stop the aggressive act. Then I would have done it. Really JF is not as an outstanding citizen or as innocent as his mother thinks he is.
@ 10:10pm Weapon retention and situational awarness were an ongoing issue with one of the parties. Never remembering to fasten the holster (before the safety holsters) Not bashing my brother. Its a touchy topic but fact is in the old days before death was a reality there was some sloppiness (with everyone) and we laughed about it
For the civilian followers and the rookies...John and Andy (follow me here 2 officers) attempted to apprehend 1 unarmed man. This unarmed man, while wrestling with 2 armed officers, was able to obtain the weapon of 1 of the armed officers and then kill both officers with that weapon. Even if this was long before the time of tasers, pepper spray and collapsible batons, he was still able to do it. He's not the only one. A friend of mine laid unconscious on the railroad tracks, knocked out by an "unarmed suspect" and while this man was pulling and trying to get his 4046 (that's a S&W for you rookies) out of his safety holster other officers arrived and arrested him with a struggle. Maybe he was just going to take his gun for safe keeping? Maybe he was just going to hold it for him until he woke up? Maybe he was going to shoot him in the head? He wore an ass whipping that night and no one ever questioned it.
Not many in the department, command staff included, will question a good ass whoopin when warranted. 10 rounds into an unarmed man? You bet your ass they are gonna question it. Regardless of the circumstances...
Actually most in command staff will most certainly question any kind of "ass whoopin". To quote Maj Jennings "this is a different era of policing"
When it comes to training; the department as a whole is approximately 10 years behind when it comes to shooting and defensive tactics. While there has been a lot of progress in the realm of DT, we've began to train recruits handle things in a niche manner. There's too much emphasis on ground fighting
Side effect of "The First Three Seconds." It assumes you're going to a ground fight under the best or worst of circumstances.
Lol, command is going to question you for even touching a suspect, much less using hard empty hands to effectively subdue a combative subject. Its a no win situation folks...do what you must to go home.
Anyone seen that white Chevy van (no markings) cruising around shadowing calls and patrol? I don't know if it is ours or somebody else's. I've tried to roll up/double back on it/catch up to it, but it always seems to vanish. I've floor-boarded it trying to catch up, get a tag, etc, but always gone. Anyone had this happen to them? 5 times in the past month for me. Is it one of ours? Not a state tag and not weighted. Got that close at least.
