Caller: "There are 2 kids with black airsoft pistols and wearing fake police vest riding around the neighborhood. I'm concerned for their safety."
Arriving on scene, I instantly notice both young men wearing gun belts and both had black Glock 19 replica handguns in their holsters. One kid is wearing gym shorts and t-shirts, while the other kid is decked out in full police gear. He has a ballistic vest with "police" attached to the front, a replica taser, 2 sets of handcuffs, an asp (baton), a camera, gloves, flashlight etc...
After a few minutes of hearing the boys tell me what they were up to, the caller arrived on scene in an irate manner. He barged into our conversation and started taking pictures of the young men as well as the replica handguns. He then started to hurl insults at the boys and demand they be charged with impersonating a law enforcement officer.
I explained to the boys the concerns of the residents and how it looks in their eyes. Although I admired both youth for their interest in becoming police officers, I informed them about wearing the "police" insignias on the vest and how in some states that's against the law.
I went over and met the caller. He begin telling me how I should arrest them for impersonating police officers and arrest them for putting their hands on their airsoft guns. I attempted to explain to the caller the law and my approach to the situation. I even told him I plan on calling their parents and informing them of my encounter with the young men, before I release them to go home. He was upset because one of the young men made a rude comment to his daughter while they were in the neighborhood.
While leaving the scene he started yelling at the young men and warning them not to come around her anymore or there will be problems. As I'm walking back to the youth he continued to hurl insults at the young men. Calling them "bi**hes", "crybabies" etc..
The young black kid started crying and holding his head down. I immediately told him to lift his head up and listen. "If he planned on being a police officer, he better prepare for the insults and negative remarks from some civilians. As a black police officer, sometimes in our own community we get treated differently. Never the less, stay focused, goal oriented, stay true to yourself. I told him I look forward to working alongside him in 6 years.
This was a teaching moment not just for the young men but for me as well and anyone reading this post. As a community we must stick together and grow together.
Officer Kelvin Mattair is with the Gainesville Florida Police Department.
Cedar's Take:
I'm often surprised at how law enforcement is thrust into these parenting situations. People call about the lamest things. Beyond that I'm old school cops and robbers - cowboys and Indians - all part of my childhood.
CMPD is paid to roll through my neighborhood every other day, two of the "secondary" guys blow by without as much as a finger hello. Then there's the other two who make a point to roll slow windows down and stop to talk to dog walkers and others. I appreciate their willingness to engage in mindless conversation with total strangers.
I also appreciate Officer Mattair's willingness to share this story.
That's my take what's yours?

That is "Old School" policing. This is the new age so you just don't see much of it anymore. I remember encountering a lot of kids getting into trouble when I was in patrol. I found that the "Good" parents could do a lot more to correct these problems than we could.
Can I get a cruiser to drop off some Polynesian sauce while I charge my Tesla at the Anthony Foxx Memorial EV Station on the Ford?
At one time Charlotte was like this. The guys who had the wild west or Hidden Valley knew everyone the good the bad and the fucked up ones. The good never feared LE and knew that a marked unit at the end of the street was a good thing. PAL was big and it helped. Church was big and it helped. At one time there were a dozen boy scout troop in Charlotte's west and north now there might be 2. The woke BLM racial equity BS has screwed the pooch and the victims are all kids.
'Deez nuggits!
Has anyone gotten robbed yet at the Vi Lyles memorial car charging station on Beatties Ford Road? Ain't no brotha in da hood got no 'lectric ride!
Pledge fund?
Dude, give it the fuck up with the pledge fund. You got played and you ain’t never gonna see none of that cash. Stop being a passive aggressive little bitch and posting “pledge fund” on every freaking blog post. You really want your money? Put your big boy pants on and go do something about it instead of hiding behind a keyboard and hoping the cedar posts blog will do it for you.
Narcissistic bosses only get to feed when you ALLOW them to bite you. As my man Gen. Patton once said, “Lead me or get the hell out of my way”….
A person can be so determined to destroy another person they are jealous of that they become blind and end up destroying themselves.
So here is a I'm going to guess a rookie cop who is all full of doing good. It makes me simile at one time that was me. Six years in I'm still a rookie but now instead of using my smarts or trying to do good, I just call the Sgt or LT and wait for further instructions.

It’s time I admit it.....The Jabs just work. They prevent COVID infection and help boost your immune system.
There’s just no way to avoid it - Fauci was right. Every blue check mark on Twitter was right. I should have listened to their overwhelming expertise and medical prowess. It’s time we help each other!
Wait, what day is it?
I will not work for a supervisor that I have caught in a bold face lie to me.
9:08pm. Give us the backstory man….
The supervisor knows who he is and the whole crew knows he lied, withheld information, only to look out for his own self interests and selfishness. We know and have proven he’s a liar
1707, then take him to IA and/or HR. Bitching on here about it changes nothing.
Let me guess, Sgt. "Sloppy Joe" McGarity wearing his shorts, t-shirt, and flip-flops while on perpetual light duty?
Nigga, Ed Williams took your pledge fund money. If you aint gonna swing on Ed then shut up on here. It sounds like he made a smart decision taking your money cus you aint gon do nothing.
