Michelle Obama is no Jackie Kennedy and Why it Matters
Chris Matthews of MSNBC may have been the first news anchor to compare Michelle Obama to Jackie Kennedy. But since then the comparison has been made again and again, frankly nothing could be further from reality.
The White House is a universally recognized symbol of America. It is from the lawn of the White House that the world watches, and often hopes in times of war and natural disaster. Behind the gates of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue decisions that affect the world are made but none are made by the President alone.
While the president may surround himself with skilled and trusted advisors, he is just as often corralled and courted by psychopaths and leg huppers. Often his closest confidant is his wife, someone who knows more than any political pundit or chief of staff, just what sets him off and what brings him to his knees.
The role of first lady has always been that of elegance and grace, protocol and etiquette, and above all else compassion.
The images of Eleanor Roosevelt tending to wounded soldiers in London, Lady Bird Johnson along side migrant workers in California, Nancy Regan at the holocaust memorial in Israel, and Jackie Kennedy along side Nikita Khruschev in Vienna, have done much over the years to build a vision of our nation as a place of understanding, acceptance and something that has been so elusive during the two most recent administrations, compassion.
While the president may often appear surrounded by his advisers and at times of national crisis alone from the oval office it is his appearance on the south lawn of the White House, alongside the first lady, that the world can see our country’s compassionate side.
America’s image overseas has not been favorable in nearly two decades, yes it’s hard to accept that it has been that long since Nancy Regan was the First Lady and Ronald Regan helped the world tear down the Berlin Wall.
There is such a stunning contrast to all those who served our county as First Lady in the past, and the angry Michelle Obama who “for the first time is proud of her country” and who mutters “whitey” just out of earshot.
We are now in period of worldwide financial crisis, a time when 39 civil and cross boarder wars, are killing thousands of unarmed civilians around the world each month and the needs of the poor and of small democratic nations around the world could not be greater.
The United States of America is threatened from so many different directions the last thing we need is an insider who is filled with anger, rage and distrust for the majority of country’s populace and 1/3 of the worlds who just happen to be not of color.
Michelle Obama we knew Jackie Kennedy and your no Jackie Kennedy, in fact your views are so far apart in the objectives you choose for your country that we do not think the comparison is well-taken.

Megan McCain
I've followed John McCain's run for the presidency via daughter Megan's blog since the early primaries. The McCainBlogette.com offers a great perspective on John McCain.

While I really appreciate what Barack Obama is saying and I am completely disgusted with the way George Bush and the Republicans have dealt with the war on terror and the economy, from Megan's blog I've come to see the man who is the "Best" choice to bring our country back to prosperity and to help us as a nation to step back away from the abyss that a congress controlled by Democrats with Nancy Polise at the helm would take us.
Therefore I'll cast my vote for John McCain on Tuesday, the rest of the races I'm voting a split ticket. I'm tossing anyone who is up for re-election, while the Democrats can blame Bush I'm blaming congress.

Barrack, Mao and Fidel, Oh My!
The Charleston Post and Courier is reporting that supporters of Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama clashed with people attending a North Carolina event featuring Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin.
The face off in downtown Asheville included loud yelling and vulgar signs. The event highlighted the tension between people who live in the liberal enclave and the others living in conservative counties that surround Asheville.
Could it be the posters?
Ever since the Russian Revolution the simple method of silk-screen printing (or serigraphy), has allowed for mass-produced radical posters, which were made quickly, without a lot of expense to be pasted up by communist supporters hoping to overthrow the government.
So it’s a little surprising that the Obama campaign would go retro with a printing process made popular by the 60’s counter culture movement, and communism's rise in the 1950's.
More 50 years ago Mao Zedong, Fidel Castro, And Ernesto "Che" Guevara found that the silk screen process could provide cheap posters that could be printed without sophisticated equipment in hidden basements and attics and then easily distributed by student and pro communist radicals.
In 2008 even Latino groups like the North American Date Farmers have gotten into the act with cheap screen printed posters like the one below supporting Barrack Obama for the March 4th primary in Texas.
When the Soviet Union needed to spread the message that the capitalists were still holding on, screen printing delivered.
Mao's movement needed a cheap and effective way to spread the word and screen printing provided the prefect media.
I'm not saying the Obama is a Communist, but with a tax and spend background, redistribution of wealth programs, socialist style medical insurance for all and other extreme left leanings I'm beginning to wonder.
The use of a poster images that are shockingly similar those used to promote the rise of communist nations like China, Cuba and Russia, makes me just a little concerned.
Get out and VOTE for McCain or we just might be calling each other "Comrade"

All Glory is Fleeting
A stiff cold breeze blows across the Charleston harbor this morning. Over the weekend Navy fell to 4 and 3, The Bulls Dogs lost to Furman and Boston came oh so close to ending the year with another league championship.
The agony of defeat, the pain of coming so far and falling short. The Red Sox had a great year but it was not to be, but it was always within reach, just oh so close.
But the news that you'll read this morning is not of weather or sports teams who in the fleeting moments of the season or game saw their destiny change, it's about the all but decided Presidential election. Colin Powell gave his nod to Barrack Obama, pundits across the nation painted state after state blue and John McCain told supporters he loves being the underdog.
Makes me wonder if Richard Nixon had being the underdog on his mind when he gave his famous "checkers" speech. John McCain is almost right, but he's not the underdog he's more like under the BIG DOG.
There reaches a point where being in denial and standing brave in the face of enemy fire is no longer the sign of a hero or true patriot, it's the sign of utter stupidity. A poorly run campaign since the Republican Convention the McCain Camp has stumbled, again and again while consistently failing to capitalize of Obama's most obvious flaw, his total lack of experience.
The Republican base is just as clueless, rallying around Sarah Palin and attending $5,000.00 a plate diners at Kiawah Island's Sanctuary resort. The wealthy and powerful have forgotten the first rule of the kingdom, that all glory is fleeting.
I really believe that with Barrack Obama in The White House and a Democrat controlled House and Senate we will turn back progress at least forty years, and that doesn't take into account the current economic foolishness.
George W's legacy will not be his response to 911 but the 8 years of missteps and disasters that led to a landslide presidential victory for the dems that swept a dozen Senate and two dozen House Republican seats with it. The Republicans have been out of touch for the last 8 years and they will pay the price.
And as for John McCain, well come election night he'll gather staffers and friends and of course Cindy and daughter Megan, and no doubt Sarah Palin as well and watch what he already knows come to be. And in the presence of these very attractive women he'll find solice in the depths of defeat as he reminds himself "I may not be president but it's good to be king" and then he'll whisper a subtle reminder for Barrack Obama as well....
"Remember that All Glory is Fleeting".
"For over a thousand years Roman conquerors returning from the wars enjoyed the honor of triumph, a tumultuous parade. In the procession came trumpeteers, musicians and strange animals from conquered territories, together with carts laden with treasure and captured armaments. The conquerors rode in a triumphal chariot, the dazed prisoners walking in chains before him. Sometimes his children robed in white stood with him in the chariot or rode the trace horses. A slave stood behind the conqueror holding a golden crown and whispering in his ear a warning: that all glory is fleeting."

Former Secretary of State James Baker was once asked what was the most important thing he had learned while in Washington and he replied that it was the fact that temporal power is fleeting.
Baker went on to observe that once driving through the White House gates he saw a man walking alone on Pennsylvania Avenue and recognized him as having been Secretary of State in a previous administration.
"There he was alone; no reporters, no security, no adoring public, no trappings of power. Just one solitary man alone with his thoughts. And that mental picture continually serves to remind me of the impermanence of power and the impermanence of place."

Obama Bucks
Well no surprise someone has made an issue of Mr. Obama's ethnicity.
I understand the fried chicken, watermelon even the ribs but what the hell does kool-aid have to do with Obama?
I'm a big fan of all four food groups, might be my southern roots showing, but I doubt Barrack has an affection for ribs, I just don't see Michelle fixing ribs or fried chicken in a June Cleaver moment.
Several weeks ago the image of a cartoon Barrack Obama appeared with stereotypical ethicnic features, lampooning his trip to Europe.

PAST DUE? UGH!
If you are like me you open your mail box with a combination of enjoyment and trepidation.
It’s a mixed bag normally, a scattering of bills, junk mail, flyers from a local painter or handyman, the latest issue of Sports Illustrated and this time of year plenty of political campaign mailings.
I’ll admit it, I’m a life long Republican, though I voted for Carter when I should have voted for Ford, I’ve voted for every Republican Presidential candidate ever since.
Some how I’ve rated a White House Christmas card from both Bush presidents and even when Bill Clinton was in the White House. So it’s no surprise that I get a lot of requests for political donations from both the GOP and Democratic Party.
Even so I’m rarely upset with all the junk mail. But recently I received a piece of mail that has really infuriated me. A bright yellow envelope with the words “PAST DUE” printed in BOLD RED INK from the Republican National Committee.
Inside a letter from RNC chairman Mike Duncan reminding me of the virtues of being a republican and the vices of the evil democrats and the soon to be elected Barrack Hussein Obama.
Along with the letter, a “2008 Membership Statement” with suggested amounts that I should enclose in the prepaid envelope, apparently in order to avoid further collection action.
Mr. Duncan, you’re an idiot!
During the last 18 months the democrats have exclaimed in a shrill voice that our republican leaders are out of touch, a fact proven over and over again by the Bush administration.
With so many Americans feeling the pressure of an economic downturn, record high gas prices, and home foreclosures sweeping the country, do you really think we need the stress of another “PAST DUE” Notice?
Middle class families are struggling to make ends meet and I’d imagine that many already receive REAL “PAST DUE” notices. Your ill conceived mailing is convincing proof that the RNC is indeed out of touch with America.
Perhaps this mailing is just trying to poke fun at the Democrats who are pandering to the struggling middle class or a marketing snafu.
Either way it’s insulting to those who pay their bills on time and hurtful to those who can not.
As far as I’m concerned the Republican National Committee is not “DUE” anything because you Mr. Duncan, like our President, are astoundingly out of touch.
With leadership like yours we will sadly see an unfathomable landslide victory across all races in all states for the Democratic Party in November.
Perhaps that is the only thing that is long PAST DUE!
